whiteymuseum
For Immediate Release: Brooklyn/Philadephia Electronic Indie Rockers, MOSSY ROCK On Tour plus Halifax's SPECIAL NOISE & local openers CAM MALCOLM & TOUGH LUCK Monday August 15th @ Casbah 306 King St W @ Queen, downtown Hamilton http://www.casbah.ca 9:00PM Doors, 9:30PM Show MOSSY ROCK - Deep within America's burgeoning indie-rock / electronic crossover scene, Philly born now Brooklyn-based trio MOSSYROCK have been relentlessly touring their naughty broken-beats coast to coast since 1999. An outgrowth of the house music collective Intergalactic Faerie Funk, Mossyrock has emerged as an evolutionary progression, taking their psychedelic funk to the live stage, resulting in glistening pop loop gems not confined by a dance floor. Combining lush heady textures with guitars, bass and subtle vocals, along with their signature dirty electronic beats, the band create a sound which ignites emotion. Mossyrock's debut CD for Toronto's nice+smooth label entitled, "The Zero To One Sessions", is a floating, textural romp fusing elements of their past electronic bent with their current space-jam leanings. Recent comparisons to current American peers such as The Books, Octopus Project and Toof are appropriate, as are the references and nods to the otherworldly yet highly nod-worthy sounds of The Orb, Boards Of Canada, a twist of Lemon Jelly and even the slyer moods of Matthew Herbert. "Imagine Dubtribe meeting Parliament: a tingly, friendly, psychedelic vibe. It's an irresistible sound that remains dreamy..." Philadelphia City Paper "Favourite performance of the weekend (OM Festival, Toronto 2003) goes to (Mossyrock) for their tripped-out live tech-house throwdownÂEimprovising on drum machines, samplers,..guitars, microphones and effectsÂE(they) really stood apart from everything else." - Now Magazine Toronto SPECIAL NOISE - "With the exception of a brief, two-show stint last summer, Halifax experimental indie rock duo Special Noise have never really seen any road action. That all changes this week, however, as drummer/xylophonist/bassist Greg Napier and guitarist/synth/drummer Jef Simmons are off on a three-week tour of Eastern Canada. "Greg did a really good job of booking it and we managed to convince his lovely parents into giving us their sedan for the month," Simmons says. "We fit perfectly into a mid-sized Sedan and we have a roadie." Simmons comes from a musical family – his older brother, Christian, is a member of Burdocks, The Hold, Attack Mode and Radarfame. "He really helped us with recording and putting on shows and all that good stuff," says the younger Simmons, who also used to drum in his brother's former outfit, Hop On Pop. "He got us into good music." Special Noise are touring in support of their debut self-titled album, which was penned more than a year ago and recorded at Ultramagnetic Studios with Charles Austin and mixed by Graeme Campbell. And, while the new disc is just coming out, the band are itching to get back into the studio to work on new material as soon as they return from their current tour." CAM MALCOLM & TOUGH LUCK - "The debut show of an ex-member of local legends THE LANGSTON HEIGHTS. Mathy, quirky and cool was the brand of LH music. We'll see the direction this goes on August 15." whiteymuseum
It was a great show. I was happy with the 44 paid, and 10 guests. It was a Monday afterall. At times Mossyrock reminded me of the pre-Arts&Crafts Broken Social Scene/KC Accidental.
