Born in Montreal, he is famous for his piano playing prowess, speed, dexterity and ability to swing at any tempo. Peterson has recorded with such greats as Dizzy Gillespie & Clark Terry and did some 2-piano performances with Count Basie. In 1964, he composed the monumental tribute to Canada, “Canadiana Suite”. His distinguished career includes two hundred albums, 7 Grammy’s, is a member of the Juno Hall of Fame, and was voted best jazz pianist for the year by the readers of Down Beat for 12 years. He is a Companion of the Order of Canada and is the subject of numerous documentaries and books.
