The Dusty Owl Reading Series Presents Mark Foss

Sunday 20 August

5pm

Swizzles Bar & Grill (down the stairs under the green awning)

246b Queen Street (betwixt Bank 'n' Kent) Ottawa

No cover.

This month Dusty Owl brings you Mark Foss, author, speechwriter, and editor, whose first collection of short stories, Kissing the Damned, was published by Oberon Press last fall. Since 1993, Mark has had about 10 stories published in Canadian literary journals including B&A New Fiction, The New Quarterly, and The Fiddlehead.

These 13 linked stories trace the emotional and political journey of a direct mail writer who works for a foreign aid agency in Ottawa. Murray is great at writing heart-wrenching fundraising appeals, but can't quite access his own feelings. Alternately dark, comic and elegaic, the stories meditate on love, loss, friendship, meaningful work, and how to cut the lawn with an electric mower without running over the cord.

Mark will be bringing copies of his collection to sell ($20) and if you ask him, we bet he'll sign them for you, your friends and family, or whoever else you'd like him to sign them for.

We'll also be having the usual and always entertaining open mike after the show, and encouraging all comers to step up to the challenge for the Object of Desire.

Anyone who wants to bring their own books, zines, and CDS to sell is also welcome to bring them along and set up a table.

See you there!
