He has co-written with Alanis Morissette, Arlene Bishop, Blair Packham and a song with Peter Murphy which appears on the x-Bahuaus frontman's 2005 solo CD Unshattered. Production credits include Mary Margaret OHara, Patricia OCallaghan, Jeremy Robinson, and Ron Sexsmith's first cassette release in 1987. Kurt played guitar on Ron's first European tour, and the two collaborated on the score to the feature film The Art Of Woo. They used to perform as a duo called SexHammer, and have co-written together. Kurt has performed as a solo artist and in numerous bands such as The Wild Strawberries (he appears on The Lillith Fair Live compilation), Danny Michelle, By Divine Right, Dan Bryk, Mia Sheard, and Howie Beck. As a guitarist of house bands for cabarets and benefits Swinghammer has backed up Sarah Harmer, Justin Rutledge, Esthero, Ivana Santilli, Matthew Barber, Luke Doucette, and members of Broken Social Scene, Metric, Death From Above 1979, JackSoul, Pilate, Finger Eleven and Blue Rodeo. Peggy Baker, Artist in Residence at The National Ballet School Of Canada, choreographed a solo dance called Rocket Girl set to music written and performed by Swinghammer.

Kurt is also an active visual artist whose work is in the collection of The Canada Council Art Bank. While he continues to create and exhibit personal bodies of paintings, he is best known for his colourful commercial work. In the mid 80s he created album covers, hand painted wardrobe, and art directed award winning videos for jazz-rap group The Shuffle Demons. He has art directed videos for numerous artists including Maestro Fresh Wes whose groundbreaking rap clips for Drop The Needle and Let Your Backbone Slide won Juno and MuchMusic Awards.

Swinghammer's graphics appear on promo material for CKLN, CFNY, CBC, and The Music Gallery. For Barenaked Ladies he created a T-shirt and tour program cartoon. His three dimensional carvings have been used in unique signage for HMV, and currently can be seen at Toronto stores Ring Music, Songbird, Lillith and ideal Coffee. He painted a mural for the first Kids In The Hall episode, as well as murals for music clubs Lees Palace and The Cameron, and College Street restaurant Oasis (seen recently on the reality TV show Restaurant Make-Over). He designed the CANADA booth at the New Music Seminar in NY, illustrated Christmas napkins for Scott, and the Jello-O Pudding Shaker for General Foods. MuchMusic commissioned him to design animated station ids, and he did several live on-air presentations with his art. His cartoon CD cover for David Wilcox was nominated for a Juno, and he illustrated the successful childrens book My Stompin Grounds The Songs of Stompin Tom Connors, published by Doubleday. He created an original font, shopping bag and posters for Sam The Record Man, did a custom Hot Rod paint job on the Zamboni at Maple Leaf Gardens, and created a set for Peggy Bakers dance set to John Cages In A Landscape.
