Formed in the early b90s by later period Allman Brothers Band vets Warren Haynes and Allen Woody, Gov't Mule has become much more than a side project. With the addition of Dicky Betts drummer Matt Abts, the band set out to pay tribute to the music of b60s power trios like Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Yet albums like their self-titled 1996 debut, Live at Roseland Ballroom, Dose and 2000's critically praised Life Before Insanity established Gov't Mule as a top southern rock/ improv band and a favourite act among peers like Metallica's James Hetfield and Henry Rollins.

Despite numerous lineup changes (as a result of the death of Woody in 2000) the band has remained immensely popular on the improv touring circuit and at festivals. A series of conceptual (musician-wise-the group's sound remains indebted to pioneers like Free, Cream, Traffic and Black Sabbath, & Led Zeppelin) records followed. Gov't Mule celebrates the release of High and Mighty, its second album as a quartet (after 2004's Deja Voodoo), with a tour featuring stunning musicianship and songs that are firmly rooted in the classics while pushing the blues-rock into the future.

Donavon Frankenreiter's second album Move By Yourself puts the California songwriter and Jack Johnson pal in the front of the roots musician/surfer pack. Occasionally funky and consistently engaging, the keyboard-dominated album recalls Talking Book-era Stevie Wonder. His nonchalant delivery imbues these soulful slices of pop perfection with a laidback wonder that has captivated audiences worldwide.
