phishtaper
We have a question on the ballot in the Guelph municipal election this year that asks if we want to do away with the Ward system when electing city councillors. Its a screwed up and ambiguous question since it does not actually specify the "give up for what" alternative (at-large being the presumed, but not explicitly stated, alternative), but that aside ... what do people generally think about electing city councillors At-large vs. geographic Wards? Im curious. Cheers.
Hux
I don't get it to be honest...there must be an explanation somewhere....
djmelbatoast
In my city there is an at large system. It gets way too complicated. There is around 40 names on the ballot and the average voter doesn't even show up. I think this system was designed to discourage the average voter so that city elite could run the city how they see fit and still claim that they had a democratic election.I think only 30% of the city voted last year and the top candidate only got 15% of that. Democracy inaction alright.
