Roots Reggae :: Lovers Rock :: Dub Riddim Riders play a mix of originals and classics from the 70s, 80s and 90s. A lot of Jamaican standards, some that people will recognize right away, and others that only long time reggae fans will know. Focus is on tunes with conscious, spiritual lyrics, and good vibes. ***************** Excerpts from Riddim Riders show review By Lynn Peppas, Welland Tribune The sun (was) shinin', the weather was sweet ... No truer words were spoken - or in this case, sung - by Downtown Welland series' guests Riddim Riders. The group performed numerous Bob Marley covers such as Sun is Shining last Saturday evening at Welland's Civic Centre, in one of the most tropical-flavoured and upbeat Niagara Blues & Jazz society concerts of this season…One essential component to their originality was keyboardist Erold Dailey's contemporary hiphop contribution to most of the songs… For their first set the band coloured within the lines, but in the second there was a lot of scat referencing that blurred the lines of reggae. The Riddim Riders took often covered songs like Cat Stevens' The First Cut is the Deepest and 'reggaesized' it, while layering in verses of other rock-folk songs such as Knocking on Heaven's Door and Lauren Hill riffs as well. These wonderful surprise twists in classic reggae songs made the music freshly unpredictable. Even though the reggae rhythms and fusion of hiphop beats made it impossible to sit still, this concert was tropically laid-back and relaxed, with masterful vocals, musicianship, and interpretations…
