  1. Tobacco causes 40 per cent of all hospital illnesses, while alcohol is blamed for more than half of all visits to hospital emergency rooms. The substances also harm society in other ways, damaging families and occupying police services.

Let us remember that since tobacco and alcohol are legal that many more people are using them hence more visits to the hospital/abuse.

  2. Hydro seeks rate hike citing lost revenue as consumers cut usage

    CBC News

The popularity of energy conservation programs is hurting Toronto Hydro's bottom line and the utility is now seeking to raise electricity rates as a result.

Toronto Hydro-Electric System Ltd. has applied for a rate increase of 6.3 per cent on May 1 to recover a $10.4-million drop in revenue.

If approved, customers using about 1,000 kilowatt hours per month would see an increase of $2.07 on their bills, the utility says.

Toronto Hydro blames the fall in revenue on the success of conservation programs over the past two years and the cost of buying and installing thousands of smart meters.

Electricity loads in the city fell by 178.5 million kilowatt hours — enough to power 178,000 homes for a month — between spring 2005 and the end of 2006, said company president Anthony Haines.

  3. Hey I don't mind that people talk about religon... it's just not really a debate for me... I've already marginalized them in my reality... and it's much better than having all this talk in the cavern where threads would be like: Local Band Plays at 11:00... America Sucks... So who likes Bob Dylan?... Kill Conservatives...

My point is more... people don't want to talk about politics so much around here anymore. And it's the same old pundits arguing each side which makes me feel that what's being said isn't particularly attrative to a new audience.

The worst for me, and it's been confirmed with a solid use of language in this thread, is when someone comes in with ideas a little right of centre... we get accused of being Neo-Cons... fuck just cause you don't want to spend money you don't have doesn't mean you want to drop bombs on every corner of the globe. I'm tired of the prejudice that exists in this forum.

Blame it on the Refs.

  4. I haven't won yet either. Mind you I will only stop at Timmy's if there are less than 2 cars in the Drive-Thru. So I've only stopped once.

Now Country Style is right next door to Timmy's and I can see the 40 car pileup at Hortons most mornings and I laugh and laugh at them.

  5. I'm inclined to believe what Dion and others have been saying today, that much of this budget is just more of the same old shell game.

    Just like every other one.

It's an average budget to me. I don't see it benfiting me much or hurting me much.

The Liberals are breathing a sigh of relief that they can say they don't like the budget without an election being called. Dion is not the man for the Liberals. Why did they vote him as their leader again?

  6. NEW YORK (CP/TSN.ca) - NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell met with New York Islanders forward Chris Simon and team representatives Saturday morning, but made no immediate decision on a suspension.

Earlier today, TSN.ca posted a story stating that Simon had been suspended for 15 regular season games and seven playoff games, an inaccurate report that should have been attributed to Madison Square Garden Network. TSN regrets any inconvenience this may have caused.

The league suspended Simon indefinitely after he drilled New York Rangers forward Ryan Hollweg with a two-handed stick swing to the face in a game on Thursday night.

Hollweg took a few stitches in the chin but was not seriously hurt.

  7. With "Climate Change" (lets pretend it's not happening) aside who wants to live in this?

Do people think it's great to pollute the world non stop even if it doesn't cause Climate Change?

[color:purple]It must be extremely good for us
