I'm torn, cause I did Polaris' marketing/press in the UK.. Personally, and this is only from me being a fan, I think 3 or 4 are front runners.

Howdy.
I've been lurking a lot lately, rarely posting, but I thought it'd be fun to do a 'new band recommendation' post. I'm discovering a boatload of bands in my new job, so here's five I think are really brilliant.
1. Roy Rieck and The Medley Band
(Tel Aviv, Israel)
- amazing alt country from Israel of all places. Now based in London.
2. Kill It Kid
(Bath, UK)
- I used to work with these guys. I really think anyone who likes old blues, Anthony Hegarty or Wilco will love them.
3. Dan Mangan
(Vancouver)
- I think he is, arguably, one of the best new songwriters in Canada. His new album is terrific.
(Edinburgh, Scotland)
- They are signed to 4AD/Beggars here and I absolutely adore them. Sort of celtic-jam. I don't think they have been to America yet.
5. Manana
(Basel, Switzerland)
- Really loving this. Post-rock-ish, I guess, with a contemporary bent. Played CMW last year, apparently.
OK... let me know and post bands!

In London I had to pay £220 for a broker and six week deposit on my flat, plus first month's rent. 98% of the flats here are managed by letting agents, so renting privately is next-to impossible.
In Amsterdam 85% of all property is owned by the government, so foreigners are forced into the small private market. Talk about competition.. an experience I'll never forget.

Kae Sun is on FRIDAY night, before XAVIER RUDD!
-
Hiya.
I didn't write this, but working in the weird world that supports Canadian music, I find it raised some interesting points. I agree with a bit, but disagree in principle. Just curious what you guys make of it.
best,
Shain
