  1. LOL Booche ... good call Could you imagine losing a no-hitter because a guy stole a base?
  2. pffft. You call that a drilling? Scramble for the puck, Kelly's playing it, he get's checked ... it wasn't boarding as the hit did not direct him into the boards at all, in fact away. Alfie's hit was into the boards = risk of major injury AND he was 5 feet away from the puck! In no way was I trying to suggest (as I had written) that Alfie's hit from behind was the only non-call in the game. I simply posted about his hit as an isolated example within a larger game.
  3. I know that you're biased towards the Sens. All fans are biased towards "their" teams. I would never try to tell somebody not to be (how can you be a fan, and not be biased?) Hell, I was complimenting the Sens on their achievements in Game 1 & 2 ... even Alfie!!! To me, that's what a fan of the sport will do. The officiating has been brutal for most of these playoffs and I know bad calls went both ways. The only thing I was getting "worked up" about was the one play ... that being Alife's cheap, and dangerous, hit from behind in OT. Alfie has become much more willing to throw hits. It's an unexpected move that I'm not used to seeing from him. I heard somewhere that he has done something different with his skates this year? Makes him a more well-rounded player ... just don't do it from behind ! .
  4. #227 - In honour of the day that is almost over, and to not interfere with theme #65 (songs about mothers), let's make this "Songs about Parents." Doesn't have to be the title, but the theme of the song, lyrically. 1. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Papa Won't Leave You, Henry 2. Neutral Milk Hotel - King of Carrot Flowers Pt 1 3. Nomeansno - Dad 4. Whitfield&Strong (for Temptations) - Papa was a Rolling Stone 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
  5. Wow. Big time advantage for the Sens by taking 2 in Buffalo to start the series! Doubt that many people would have predicted that with the record that the Sabres have had all year. Seems like there are two totally different teams on the ice. Sens are dominating the special teams. This is what's doing it for them. Shutting down the PP of the President's Trophy winner?! Congratulations. I missed game 2, but was able to catch the OT when I got home. Buffalo HAD the chance to win both games even though they were outplayed. Somehow championship teams are able to do that when it's needed. Sens HAVE to be feeling confident being up 2 games and having home ice advantage now. Let's see if they can keep it together. hitting is allowed in pro hockey Yeah, whatever ... if that had been the other way around and somebody had nailed Alfie from behind in OT like that you'd be screaming. You gotta admit when a player does something nasty like that. There's no two ways about it, that would have been a 5 minute major and possible game misconduct in ANY other game this year. While Alfie deserves much credit for the Sens success in these two games, THAT WAS A DIRTY HIT AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED. Back to the game ...
  6. Wayyyyy too funny. From boingboing: Police officer Edward Sanchez of Dearborn, Michigan made some pot brownies with his wife and got so paranoid that he called 911 for fear they were dying. The recording of the 911 call is absolutely insane. From a transcript: Sanchez:I think I'm having an overdose. and so is my wife. 911: Overdose of what? Sanchez: Marijuana... Sanchez: We made brownies. and I think we're dead. I really do... Sanchez: Time is going by really, really, really slow... Sanchez: What's the score in the Red Wings game? 911: I've got no clue, i don't watch the Red Wings. Sanchez: I just wanted to make sure this isn't some kind of hallucination I'm having. Link to AP article, Link to MP3 of the call

  12. http://www.sportsnet.ca/football/cfl/article.jsp?content=20070511_133741_5096 Ricky's return up in smoke? May 11, 2007 Sportsnet.ca Let's be blunt. Ricky's NFL career may be over. (file) Ricky Williams tests positive again Memorial Cup finalists focus on WHL title Ducks' Getzlaf and Perry fast friends Ricky Williams tests positive again Report: Nowitzki named MVP over Nash Defence takes centre stage in West Schumi may not be finished yet Nadal matches McEnroe's record Diamondbacks rookie infielder arrested Vick scrambles from dog-fighting case MIAMI (CP-AP) -- Ricky Williams, who spent last season in the CFL while serving an NFL drug suspension, has tested positive again for marijuana, according to a source. A person familiar with the case said the former NFL rushing champion tested positive last month. Williams had applied to the NFL for reinstatement in April but following the latest positive drug test, clinicians in the program advised league commissioner Roger Goodell to delay reinstatement, the source said. Both the NFL and Dolphins declined comment. Leigh Steinberg, Williams' agent, did not immediately return a telephone message. Williams spent the 2006 season with the Toronto Argonauts, rushing for 526 yards on 109 carries but missed two months with a broken arm and Achilles tendon injury. But on Friday in Toronto, Argos president Keith Pelley said if Williams has indeed tested positive, he won't be able to find refuge in the CFL this season. Pelley said in the off-season the CFL's board of governors passed a code of conduct policy preventing its teams from signing players under suspension by other leagues, including the NFL. "I can definitively say Ricky Williams will not be in the CFL this season," Pelley said. Williams, who turns 30 on May 21, was suspended in April 2006 by the NFL after violating the league's drug policy for the fourth time. Last month, Steinberg quoted Williams as saying his interest in eastern philosophy had overcome his desire for mind-altering substances. Williams won the 1998 Heisman Trophy at Texas and the 2002 NFL rushing championship with the Dolphins, but has played only 12 games since 2003.
  13. bradm, Wiki (i'm sure you checked ) had a few examples. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LD50 Examples * Oral LD50 of grain alcohol: 10.6 g/kg in young rats, 7.06 g/kg in aged rats.[5] * Oral LD50 of nicotine: 50 mg/kg in rats.[6] * Oral LD50 of Table Salt: 3000 mg/kg in rats[7] * LD50 of Tetrahydrocannabinol (active ingredient found in Cannabis): 1270 mg/kg in rats. * LD50 of batrachotoxin: estimated at 1 to 2 µg/kg in humans.[citation needed] * LD50 of Polonium 210: estimated at 10 ng/kg (inhaled) to 50 ng/kg (ingested) in humans makes this one of the most toxic substances known. One gram in theory could poison 100 million people of which 50 million would die.

  15. From a buddy of mine in Florida: And yet they continue to put thousands in jail for using pot. Bah! Michael http://www.11alive.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=96762&provider=top Interesting tidbit from the DoJ: http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/studies/YOUNG/young4.html UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE Drug Enforcement Administration In The Matter Of MARIJUANA RESCHEDULING PETITION Docket No. 86-22 OPINION AND RECOMMENDED RULING, FINDINGS OF FACT, CONCLUSIONS OF LAW AND DECISION OF ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGE FRANCIS L. YOUNG, Administrative Law Judge DATED: SEPTEMBER 6, 1988 Section 8 of Judge Young's "Findings of Fact, Conclusions of Law and Decision." [...] 7. Drugs used in medicine are routinely given what is called an LD-50. The LD-50 rating indicates at what dosage fifty percent of test animals receiving a drug will die as a result of drug induced toxicity. A number of researchers have attempted to determine marijuana's LD-50 rating in test animals, without success. Simply stated, researchers have been unable to give animals enough marijuana to induce death. 8. At present it is estimated that marijuana's LD-50 is around 1:20,000 or 1:40,000. In layman terms this means that in order to induce death a marijuana smoker would have to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times as much marijuana as is contained in one marijuana cigarette. NIDA-supplied marijuana cigarettes weigh approximately .9 grams. A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response. 9. In practical terms, marijuana cannot induce a lethal response as a result of drug-related toxicity.

  19. Shamisen is a 3-stringed Japanese instrument. I've NEVER heard it played this way. Very cool. These guys should be booked at some summer festivals!
  20. I've been wishing for them to unload Antropov for a couple of years now. He's gotta go while he's still worth 'something' somewhere else. Sundin will be signed again I'm sure. He's the guy they will be utilizing to try to convince other players to come to the Leafs. Sad. JFJ is a fucknut. Back to placing commercials for the Sens game on Saturday night
  21. Interesting game last night. Ottawa's PK was on fire! They deserve the first star for their effort last night as they completely stymied the Sabres' PP. Fischer was a force to be reckoned with. So, it should be an interesting game on Saturday night ... let's see which team can maintain there level of playing and which one can raise it even higher. I'm thinking it will be a nail-biting OT game
