  1. I've been having to go to Chicago every week for the past 6wks, and I can't complain.

Kingston Mines is def'y a good place to go to get yo blues on and feel a little bit of the history.

My choice would be for the Meters at the HoB. Also the Tarbox Ramblers are playing the back room at the HoB which is always a fun show. Might want to consider Tortoise at the Metro (i think) on Saturday night.

Aside from the deep dish, Italian beefs, and Chicago dogs, there is so much good food to be had in Chicago. Don't hesitate to go driving around the 'burbs because it really ain't that far outta the way.

  2. just heard one recently that i thought was cool.

somebody i know was driving through Wyoming back in the mid-80s, stopped in some small sh*t town to take a break, stretch it out, get irie. there's a small restaurant there, he's walking around outside, just looking at the rolling hills and sh*t when he hears a bunch of screaming from inside. he's at the back of the restaurant where the back door of the kitchen is open, walks in, realizes that some dude is holding the place up. he grabs a bat-type weapon that was found in the kitchen, approaches the robber from behind, knocks him the f*ck out thereby saving the day. cops come to the scene, offer their thanks, do some questioning, ask him what he was doing around back ... "ah, just smoking a butt."

if only they knew that the pothead saved the day. or maybe it's better that they didn't know that.

  3. 100% worth checking out. it's jammin 'grass (for lack of a better description) with very talented musicians who can write some good tunes.

having said that, i haven't listened to them in well over a year. no reason not to go though - it'll be cheap and most likely very good if that's yer bag.

  4. just wanted to beat BradM to the punch:

Okay I really wanted to write all of this into a review but considering I am not likely to get around to that just yet here's the dirt. So basically the Golden Dogs are being touted as the next big thing much in the same way Metric and BSS were in their time. I didn't know what to make of the hype around them but as soon as they got going I forgot about my fatigue and just started flailing about up front. This digressed to the flipping the bird salute and the gladiator style thumbs down as an IRONIC expression of the joy I was experiencing. Seriously everything about my body language and facial expression would have described pure joy. Anyways it all seems like a dream now (more truly a nightmare) but effectively the lead singer guitarist Dave Azzolini points to me and I've got this sh!t eating grin on my face then he walks over to me and just fu©king hoofs me in the chest. Hard. It felt like the fu©king rock and roll baptism by fire. Of course I presumed it was all part of the act but when the lights came up and he announced to the entire audience (imagine 500 lesbians turning to glare at you simultaneously): 'Girls you see this guy in the Phil Collins shirt up front, don't touch him all weekend he's dirty, he's got diseases'. No fu©king kidding. Tungsten and a few others saw it all go down as did seemingly half of hillside as I soon found out over the weekend as the story made the rounds. Now in hindsight the whole thing fu©king pisses me right off mainly because the guy full on assaulted me and could have broke my fu©king ribs and moreover I didn't realize he was assaulting me at the time and would have reacted far differently. What a fu©king dick. What did he expect me to do the middle age lesbian watoozie for the whole set?

Oh and the write up of their set in the Guelph Mercury says little or nothing about their music and refers only to 'in true rockstar-in-training fashion Dave Azzolini berated a fan- allegedly sporting a Phil Collins t-shirt no less- for his rude reception of their performance on the island stage'. You can tell the writer didn't see it all go down because they likely would have mentioned that he kicked me in the chest or called me a dirty. Oh sweet sweet vengeance do not fail me now.

  5. they came out stomping with the CoP and then i sorta lost them until the Crosstown Traffic (which was nuts as well). coulda been that those were the only tunes i recognized (or jibber-jabbering with girl), but i thought the other tunes were kind of cheesey. they def'y brought huge energy to the stadium, and many people dug their set.

  6. if by link you mean setlist, then here it is.

thanks del for putting up the BT setlist. much easier on the eyes.

previous years have had better lineups, but i still thought it was pretty smokin. started at 7pm (shortly after) and ended at 4:15am. about half the room cleared out early in the mule set, which was unfortunate. pussies.

  7. great time. here's the not-so-easy-to-read setlist if any of you are interested. sorry it's in a crappy format and i don't have time to rearrange it right now.

just briefly: highlights for me were the jorma lineup (bowlegged woman!), galactic (only caught last 2 tunes), popper sitting in with everybody and especially the acoustic set, some of living colour, nevilles, and the little feat set was dynamite !

  8. Why would Jimmy Herring have to also be in Widespread Panic? Herring is becoming like Warren Haynes, they have to be in every jamband on the planet.

i made the comment b/c there was/is an actual likelihood of this happening. i agree that it is alot like phantasytour talk though.

actually, i made the comment based on that Jazz is Spread show in '98 VT. dynamite.

  9. can't wait to come home to ontario and drink good canadian beer again !

    50

    sleemans

    steamwhistle

    carlsberg

    abita amber

i think this list should be divided into categories.

  10. Quote:

Ketamine is an anaesthetic that is available only to physicians and is "scheduled" in several states. Since anaesthetizing levels of Ketamine "knock you out", the dose required to have an experience is 6 to 10 times smaller than what is given by veterinarians and physicians. "Ketamine is a prescription only medicine and so is not covered by the Misuse of Drugs Act. This means that possession of ketamine is not a criminal offence. However, under the Medicines Act, unauthorised supply is illegal."

So its not illegal to have on ya??? Wow....learn something new everyday.

not illegal if you have a prescription for it. i'm a pharmacist, and i've never seen a prescription written for it in an outpatient setting. in the hospital, sure. it has its place in anesthesia, although not very often.

  11. funny shite:

"Some of our toys, such as the Ben Wa Balls are designed to enhance your pleasure by strengthening the muscles of the vaginal canal."

    or,

"We have a new series of anal stimulating toys including Anal Beads, Silicone Butt Plugs."

clearly, someone of my maturity level needs to have some of those "Glow In The Dark Foreplay Dice". i don't think i'd know how to direct the situation otherwise.

  12. Another time, Jerry Band show, MSG 1991, we stayed at the Southgate Towers in Manhattan kittycorner from MSG. Gorgeous place, and it only cost US$89 with my CAA discount...but that was 1991, so I bet the price has gone up.

actually, when i was there last halloween for panic, the price was around the same. we asked for an upgrade, and they gave us the penthouse. no additional cost. granted, the penthouse looked just like it did in 1974, but hey there was plenty o' party space.
