  1. I too regret not buying my tickets in advance. I treated the Toronto Bluesfest like the ones I attended in Ottawa from 1996-2000. Where I would often just show up and buy my ticket the day of the event if I was up in Ottawa for a weekend in July.

  2. By JAM! Music

The Toronto Bluesfest, which was set to feature such artists as Lyle Lovett, Wyclef, Chris Isaak, Wilson Pickett, The Tea Party and OutKast's Big Boi, has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

The organizers, who claimed to be faced with huge potential losses, made the decision to pull the festival, which was set to kick off this weekend at Exhibition Place.

"My heart goes out to all the bands, sponsers, volunteers, staff and fans who supported last year's event and were on board for this year." says executive director Mark Monahan.

Full refunds will be given to ticketholders at the point of purchase.

I am so bummed out! I was more looking forward to seeing Chris Hillman and Bernie Leadon for the first time more than anything else this summer.

Now I guess if I'm going to see these guys I'll be heading up to the Ottawa Bluesfest this weekend. I don't think I can miss this gig so I think I'll be going up to our nations capital this weekend.

  3. I almost forgot to mention as I'm going to another show but,

    LOS LOBOS

    HARBOURFRONT CENTRE

    SAT JUL 17, 2004

I have no other information about the gig, and if I wasn't going to be seeing Former Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers members Chris Hillman and Bernie Leadon, then I would definitely be at this gig.

I saw Los Lobos for the third time this year at bonnaroo and the band hasn't lost a step and are still absolutely amazing live.

  4. While on the road supporting its latest Hollywood/Mammoth studio album, "The Ride," Los Lobos is planning on taping its first DVD, slated for a Christmas 2004 release.

"We are doing two nights at the end of this month at the Fillmore [in San Francisco]." Los Lobos guitarist/singer Louie Perez tells Billboard.com "It is not going to be like 'The Ride' DVD. It is going to be a Los Lobos live show. Of course, there will probably be half a dozen new songs. During our set, which is two hours-plus, we visit just about every record we've ever done and then we throw in the goofy, obscure cover every now and then."

Qualifying for such a selection is a Bob Marley track or the Who's "My Generation," which Perez says unites Los Lobos' multi-generational audience. Considering its more than a dozen guests -- including Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and Richard Thompson -- appear on "The Ride," surprise guest appearances during the Fillmore shows seem like a no-brainer.

"I think so," says Perez. "It depends, Richard [Thompson] actually spends a lot of time in Southern California. And if he is around, then possibly he may come up. I'm not sure. It is just kind of getting put together so we'll start looking around to see who is available as far as guests. And it doesn't necessarily have to be 'The Ride' guests. It could be somebody else."

Perez says Los Lobos will be touring through November, including an October jaunt to Japan, before the group "hangs up the 'Gone Fishin' sign" for the year. As for the next studio album, Perez hints he may try to regroup the band after the first of the year, which is also around the time the guitarists side project, the Latin Playboys, plan on recording a live album for a fall 2005 release.

As previously reported, Los Lobos will on Aug. 3 issue the "Ride This -- The Covers EP," featuring its rendition of songs by such "The Ride" guests as Costello, Waits, Thompson and Bobby Womack.

  5. That's pretty crazy! I was at the "All Good Music Festival" in 2000 and I saw none of what this person was talking about. I actually felt that it was one of the most laid back and friendly festivals that I have attended.

I remember after a lot of rain on the Saturday night, my girlfriend at the time, and I decided to leave Sunday morning. We helped other people out of the mud and were helped ourselves.

I guess it's changed since then?

  6. STING

    SACRED LOVE TOUR

    ANNIE LENNOX

    AIR CANADA CENTRE

    WED JUL 14 2004 7:00PM

    WITH OPENER DOMINIC MILLER

I passed up one of Sting's two shows at Massey Hall this year to see Bob Dylan. Now I get to see Gordon Summoner with Annie Lennox at the ACC instead (note the same bill will be back at the ACC again, I believe on October 17.).

I've been to the last three Sting tours and have never been disappointed, which I guess is obvious as I keep seeing him again when he comes back.

    Anyone else going?

  7. I love Roger McGuinn! I feel that he is one of those artists that has helped pave the way for so many genre's of music, and doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Yes there were others involved in his journey, Gene Clark, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Michael Clarke, Gram Parsons, Kevin Kelley, Clarence White, John York, Gene Parsons and Skip Battin, just to name those who were in the Byrds with him.

But as David Crosby said Roger McGuinn was the Byrds. McGuinn leading that great American Band he helped create folk-rock, psychedelic-rock, and country-rock.

The Byrds were influenced by the Beatles. But the Beatles were also influenced by the Byrds. George Harrison was quoted saying that "If I Needed Someone" was influenced by The Byrds "The Bells Of Rhymney."

I finally got to see McGuinn in Buffalo last spring for the first time. He performed solo and it was one of the most special shows I have ever witnessed. I hope that he soon comes back again, as I'll definitely go for seconds.

This weekend I'll be seeing his former band mate Chris Hillman perform with Herb Pederson where I assume I'll be hearing a Byrds tune or two. At the end of the night Hillman will be joined by another former band mate Bernie Leadon, when they were together in the Flying Burrito Brothers. They will perform at tribute to Gram Parsons and the Burritos. The show is this Saturday (July 17th) at the Toronto Bluesfest and this Sunday (July 18th) at the Ottawa Bluesfest, both on one of the side stages.

  8. If I had a festival pass for the Ottawa Bluesfest and it got me into see Bryan Adams, I'd go.

I grew up on Adams in the eighties and saw him perform once at the Molson Amphitheatre in 1995. It was a great show.

I haven't bought an Adams (Bryan not Ryan) record since the early nineties. But I bet I'd know 90% of the songs performed

  9. Gabriel's bubble was incorporated in the song "Growing Up" which was used to great affect. I don't know if Wayne's bubble was used during a song as I wasn't at the show.

Gabriel's looks cooler, but he wanted to go into the crowd but couldn't. Wayne's bubble could go into the crowd and did.

Wayne's bubble is better for interacting with the crowd, while Gabriel's is better for visual effects involved in a song.

  10. I love Peter Gabriel and think the Flaming Lips are great too. The difference between their two ball, heh, heh, is that Gabriel's weighed way too much to go into the crowd. He was told by his orange jump suit road crew that his ball would have crushed the crowd.

While Wayne Coyne's ball was light enough to go into the crowd, as the picture obviously shows above.

I really wish that Lollapalooza did not get cancelled this year as I was really excited to see The Flaming Lips again. Oh well Bob Dylan isn't a bad substitute.

  11. from www.billboard.com

Bob Dylan has joined the late Jerry Garcia as a wine entrepreneur. While the J. Garica-label stems from California's Sonoma Valley, Dylan's signature appears on the back lable of Planet Waves, a red produced by Italy's Fattoria Le Terrazze winery and named after a 1974 Dylan album.

The 2002 vintage is a blend of 75% Montepulciano and 25% Merlot grapes grown on the winery's vineyards in Italy's Marche region. It follows Visions of J, a Fattoria Le Terrazze wine that its owner, Antonia Terni, named after the Dylan song "Visions of Johanna," prior to any association with the artist.

"I've been a Bob Dylan fan since the first time I heard him, and I didn't even understand English then," Terni told Wine Spectator magazine. "I never imagined we'd make a wine together."

Of the 415 cases produced, 125 will be exported to the United States, with suggested price of $65 per bottle.

  12. Hey hamilton, I hope your fork jamming went well last night. While you were doing that I saw a pretty good Canadian band that has been around since 1971.

I think Myles Goodwyn is not only a underrated Canadian guitarist, but songwriter as well.

I dragged my girlfriend to see the show, by the end of it she actually admitted to enjoying the show. She couldn't believe how many songs she actually knew! I guess we can all thank Cancon and the CRTC for that, but that's for another post.

I also couldn't believe that their drummer Jerry Mercer is sixty-five years old! Boy for an old, relatively large man, can he still drum.

The band was rounded out by Jim Clench on bass, who wrote "Oowatanite" and sang lead on that classic radio song and "Weeping Widow."

Brian Greenway on guitar, who sang lead on "Drop Your Guns" and King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man."

Myles sang the rest of the songs mostly written by him, minus "You Could Have Been A Lady" by Hot Chocolate, "Bad Side Of The Moon" by Elton John and "Sign Of A Gypsy Queen" by Lorence Hud.

There was also a new mamber Carl Dixon on guitar and keyboards.

Here's the setlist from the show.

    Start time 8:57pm
