I'm sure they'll apply for and get something like a 72 hour waiver. Think about the guys with gun charges and way worse drug charges that routinely play Toronto. Helly Jaydawg's booked a bunch of them.

I haven't been to one of these sort of events in years but with Czech and Marcus on the bill I'm sold.

Jesse's really accomplished and can percuss on almost anything. At a memorial for Paul Haines (Emily's father) he played a solo on his drum stool overturned - this 'stool sample' was an homage to Paul's sense of humour. Typically they play as Tall Boys of course (Breit, Brubeck, Stewart).
Despite all the Canadian shows I'm a little concerned that Kevin's listing his primary address as somewhere in New Mexico these days, what happened to Elora?

I'm reasoning this is the personnel of the current incarnation of the NPG:
Maceo Parker - Saxophone(s)
Andy Allo - Guitar/ Vocals
Ida Neilson - Bass
John Blackwell - Drums
Morris Hayes - Keyboards
Cassandra O'Neill - Keyboards
Olivia Warfield - Vocals
Shelby Johnson - Vocals
I read that Maceo plays "Selmer Mark VI, (which he has had goldplated) and a Brilhart Ebolin mouthpiece 3. He uses Vandoren Java 3 and a half reeds." Is this an obvious question but does Maceo typically play Alto, Tenor, and Baritone or one dominant?

Like a lot of people's calls. Somehow I think people will get their Sand, Carini, Dog Log, Walfredo (good call Weirdness and Genetic Method> Chest Fever would be the most fitting choice), Alumni, Sanity and whatever nu skool shit you listen to.

Rev nailed it.

Are any of the other shows or setlists up?

That's probably a good read but with a backing band like Will Sessions and the catalogue of music he's played on directly, plus his definitive soul wah outings like Scorpio, I'd imagine it'll work for the lawn chair crowd and everyone else.
-
I've been pushing Dennis Coffey backed by the Will Sessions band (sort of Detroit's answer to the Dap Kings) for ages. They're playing the night before at the Horseshoe as well.
Here's a short article on his background, solo material and current self-titled. There's a good instrumental of Cee-Lo's Fuck You in that article as well.

Help me, help me!! - Jay Funk Dawg

Sorry I missed the SOS show- as a long time beat conductor for PF Station/ Fly Jimmy Swift/ Jimmy Swift Band for too many years to mention- well I just wish all the musicians and fans the best.

How long has he been out on the road for?

Everybody knows by now that there's a gazillion books on me either out or coming out in the near future. So I'm encouraging anybody who's ever met me, heard me or even seen me, to get in on the action and scribble their own book. You never know, somebody might have a great book in them.
Sounds like Bob Dylan to me.

And let’s not overlook classic rockers Peter Frampton, John Fogerty, Steve Miller or Huey Lewis and the News
re: the Boomer set clearly these names didn't jump out at me- that's pretty good coverage. And come on Joe Satriani! (not necessarily Boomers but Flyin' In A Blue Dream was the first CD I ever bought!).
-
At the moment I'd say a tad underwhelming but it seems like the big guarantee artists haven't really been announced. Northern Wish'd know better than I as to the dollars but Huey Lewis and the News make top dollar in Vegas and the Casino circuit almost exclusively. I wouldn't be surprised if Hall & Oates is a legit rumour. Seems like the boomer set hasn't been well represented across the board.
As usual the sidestage gems will be unmatched. Dennis Coffey for instance is one of the original Funk Brothers and defines the soul wah guitar sound on countless tracks as a sideman, his solo album Scorpio, and his new self titled album backed by Will Sessions (fronted by trumpet player arranger Sam Beaubien - Mayer Hawthorne and the Country and principally Black Milk's Album Of The Year, and bass player Tim Shellaberger). Will Sessions is at the forefront of the Detroit neo-soul revival in Hip Hop but have a huge repertoire of their own, as jazz players first they're the perfect band to back Coffey (akin to the Dapkings or Betty Lavette's new backing band).

Saw Greyboy Allstars a few times back in the day (and a less than memorable DJ Greyboy set once). Isn't Burt Neilson's very occasional cover Toys R Us a Greyboy Allstars song?

PHEW! For a second there I thought James Franco wouldn't be in this film.
He likes to work.

I could see that Skrillex guy get a booking. I don't know if I believe that Black Sheep will go back to strict comedy- some of the best 'club size' acts musically played that stage (often to sparse audiences but still). Last year the most electronic acts were say Passion Pit and Rural Alberta Advantage if you like (Konono no. 1 too who played Black Sheep for instance). I'm curious more than the routing likelihoods about what Monahan wants to do with programming dollars across genres. Hence looking at what's registered in the past year or two in independent musical circles. I mean for instance apart from Drake (who cancelled didn't he?) and Down With Webster there was no hip hop really- I could see that change.

My first concert was The Band with Billy Preston (Stan Szelest was supposed to play the tour but died) in '89 at the Ontario Place Forum.
Second big concert was '93 with Hall & Oates at Massey Hall.

whoa now, hold the phone, whoa whoa who: Mr. Darryl Hall and Mr. John Oates....
-
I like Burial quite a bit, and James Blake (who sort of brushes against dubstep at points) but as far as artists it's a bit of a bleek landscape (no pun intended). Any other artist recommendations?

Too soon for a Swept Away reference?

Does the U2 rumour jibe with the Moncton date routing wise? I wonder if Michael Cohl and Monahan know each other or if Cohl would accept U2 playing any festival other than their own (he's known for both revolutionizing the concert industry and figuring out how to squeeze every ounce of ancillary revenue out of a show - Bluesfest doesn't seem like a match to the mentality).
I feel like beyond the tangible rumours the skies pretty much the limit. I'm thinking more from the perspective not of routed tours but programming choices relevant to the last year. Not sure who immediately comes to mind... I bet Young Empires gets a booking at Black Sheep...
