Molson buys Creemore Springs Brewery
Last Updated Fri, 22 Apr 2005 11:50:11 EDT
CBC News
TORONTO - Molson Canada said Friday it has acquired Creemore Springs Brewery Ltd. for an undisclosed price.
* INDEPTH: Beer
Molson said it will look at expanding Creemore sales to other parts of Canada, as well as increasing the Ontario-based craft brewer's marketing spending.
Molson said the acquisition will give it a position in the growing domestic super-premium segment, adding that the Creemore brand image and brewing craft will remain unchanged.
"Molson's intention is for Creemore to continue operating as a distinct organization benefiting from its own people, knowledge, recipes and marketing methods," said Kevin Boyce, the president and CEO of Molson Canada.
Based in the small Ontario town for which it is named, Creemore employs about 50 people. The company dates back to 1987.
Molson's acquisition of Creemore marks the latest move by Canada's larger beer companies to buy smaller breweries that make premium-priced beer. In June 2004, Sleeman completed the takeover of Quebec beermaker Unibroue.javascript: markup()

MEDESKI, MARTIN & WOOD
Opening act: "Young Philadelphians"
(Marc Ribot, Grant Calvin Weston and Jamaaladeen Tacuma)
Medeski Martin & Wood had been packing ‘em in for four consecutive years at the Festival before taking a break in 2004. The ensemble is back again with its most electrifying creation ever, End of the World, featuring sounds somewhat more elaborate and pop-oriented. The show will spotlight special guest Marc Ribot, an extraordinarily versatile guitarist who collaborated on the album. The opening act will feature Ribot with the dynamic trio ‘Young Philadelphians, which includes amazing free-funk bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma and the awesome Grant Calvin Weston on drums. Together they’ll be serving up an amalgam of progressive jazz and funk.

Looking like a good weekend to go to Montreal!
-
I remember checking you guys out back in '95 a couple of times at the Volcano in Kitchener, and I think once or twice at the Embassy Hotel in London. Really good times from what I recall.
-
Yeah, what D_Rawk said. I think TMNS will be the place we'll be. A case of Lucky and a little GD tribute action just down the road seems like a good idea. Since the snow melted, I think we have enough empties to grab a case!

Happy Birthday!
Have a good one!

Personally I hate Morrissey. All he does is whine and bitch about how sad and lonely he is, and he just sits on my couch all day, and eats my food. Would it kill him to tidy up a little or maybe do some dishes or buy his own weed!
That's some funny sh!t. I've hated that guy since he moved in. Him and Elton John living in Scotty's crawl space. Dude you've gotta take control of your place!
-
Sean tried to get through from 10 till 12 and got nothing but busy signals. I guess he's just going to have to win us some tic's.
D_Rawk won a Coleman camping package last week, so there is a little luck on our side.

Thank you very much to Grand Theft Bus, that Nick guy for introducing GM to a new kind of love and the boys for hosting another good time.
Musical highlight - "Squirrel's Vagina"
Brilliant!

The guy almost didn't open the door to let me in to the Mac's because he said I looked "suspicious"...
LOL, I think that guy's suspicious. Monday was a little sketchy. One too many indie smokes this weekend. On the plus side, we found out Gracie's has 9 cent wings on Monday nights.
-
Yeah that's pretty sweet. Looking foward to the Ottawa show!
-
Yeah, that was a pretty good night! I'm really looking foward to checking out the John Henry's again.
-
I guess the petition worked.
12th September Toronto - Air Canada Centre
14th September Toronto - Air Canada Centre
25th November Ottawa - Corel Centre
26th November Montreal - Bell Centre

On Tuesday nights at Dekcuf they have a free trance dj night.
Stone Roses, Kula Shaker and Swervedriver aren't bad Brit Pop bands to check out.
-
Looks like it's going to be a good one. A little Sadies and John Henry's action for me.
Great avatar Del.
-
Well, they went on at 11:30, good times though. Great to see Hux, Sugarmegs, Meggo, Stapes, D_Rawk, et all. I'm a wee bit pished. Smaller crowd than last week.
-
Yeah Del, I was thinking you might be hurting last Friday morning. I got up and 9 and was a hurting unit.
On the upside, Babylon's website says the band is starting at 10 tonight.
-
Just rolled back into the Odot and was thinking a little Raggamuffin might not be such a bad idea either. Might see you there.

Happy Birthday Asparagus!
It's always a pleasure to be in your company. Have a good one.

Thanks everybody. It was great to get out and skate. Haven't done enough of it so far this year. The ice from downtown to 5th Ave was really good. We'll have to do it again sometime.

It was a pretty packed house last night, and not too many familiar faces. Good times though. Made for a rough morning at work...
