  5. If the bands at Shoreline can't play at Evolve that just opens the door for far too many DJs or average bands to fill the time slots. Too bad. :(

were did you get that info?

That must be on evolve's end of things.

I was given this information from someone directly involved with Shoreline (who will remain nameless). In actuality' date=' it makes sense that you wouldn't want all of the same bands at 2 separate festivals. Sure, you want to sell tickets to both and people wouldn't be as likely to buy tickets and travel to 2 very similar festivals. If this information is wrong, I apologize. I really hope that Evolve is a hit and is successful for everyone involved.

I just think it's too bad that the lineup hasn't been announced...especially because so many other concert schedules/tours/festivals are already concrete. I don't know anything about promo, but it would make sense that the earlier the lineup is out, the more hype could be generated and the more tickets could be sold. To folks in the east this may not be that big of a deal. But for someone traveling from Ontario or farther, it takes months to plan and save for these excursions. [/quote']

it does make sense. but this rumor that shoreline has signed deals that prevent acts from playing evolve isn't true. this has been brought up on a few different boards on the east coast. I booked the headliners and signed the contracts, there is nothing in them that mentions evolve. 3 of the headliners do have a radius clause that prevents them from touring on the east coast around shoreline, that's it.

it just needs to made clear because a few kids on the east coast are ripping on shoreline for the same rumor.

  6. sure its a little dirty pool to post the line up on this thread. but festival attendees will be looking at this thread, shoreline's name has come up in it. why not do a little promo. I am a promoter that's what we do, try to sell as many tickets as possible so we can do it all over again.

sorry for offending you Hartamophone i can be very aggressive in my promotions at times, as you all know.

  10. what?

that wasn't you....hmmm, now that is strange.

i 'thought' you posted it, then deleted it..but then they claimed the person who posted it deleted it...

    strange.

i'll only postted it here and on the hub. there's just no point, it would only drag it out.

  11. there were to get paid at the gigs but left town like a GW nuke on its way to an oil field.

i wired the money today, becuase i do feel it was somewhat my fault for not being there to smooth shit out.

  12. I've really been trying to stay out of it but I most reposed now.

First off U.F.Productions has never ever cancelled a show in its 4 year 153 shows/events later induceding 3 BP dates in the east coast with Kid Koala.

Brothers Past has cancelled 4 shows in the last 2 weeks in Canada alone 2 festivals and 2 club shows.

As a band member Tom I wouldn't expect you to know all the details behind these shows.

Moving the Ottawa show downstairs to a bigger room with a liquor license was a good move.

Venue in Montreal was hard to come by do to the fact that there's a F1 race in Montréal this weekend and everything's been booked up for weeks. and the room was rented and tala is playing there tonight.

The work permit issues had to do with another half filed work permit from another promoter, witch in turn HRDC rejected mine!!!

There might not have been enough promo done, but Brothers Past never send there fucking promo packs out to either city!!

banking bullshit, and reaching on phone wasn't that hard I'm sorry i couldn't anwser 10 calls per/hour from you guys. I was never expected or committed to being on site for these shows. I'll never make that mistake again next I'll just turn shows down.

the Hotels in both cities was an issues, I thought the hotel in Ottawa was paid for but it was only on hold. and there was no way I was booking a hotel inside Montréal. I couldn't find one for less then $500per/room a night. and BP 3 double rooms per would just cost to much. whats a half hour drive to save $1,500, I had rooms booked just out side of the city on your way to the seeker.

ya the shows were under promo the hotel rooms weren't perfect. I made some mistakes mostly trying to put shows that I couldn't be on site for, but Brothers Past got paid for the both shows.

I feel for the Seeker crew, sorry if BP needs to blame me for them not playing your Festival. having you headliner canceled for reasons unrelated to you, is fucking bullshit. i sure there are contracts in place.

  13. The Shish Tawook meal with fetouch, fresh pita, and roasted potatoes was excellent. The all day breakfast is also very good and affordable. Hmm...very tasty! Good work! (now I am hungry)

    Food & Drink

    • Liz Feltham gives Cafe Vienna top marks for good food and large portions, and for having an all-day breakfast.

    food1.jpg

Liz Feltham settles into the comfortable chaos of Cafe Vienna.

It’s a brilliant move to put a cafe in the same building as a laundromat. I’m not knocking these wash-and-dry facilities, but I can’t think of a worse place to have to while away a couple of hours. The Bluenose was the first local joint to host such an eatery, when Cafe Vienna opened upstairs as an alternative to reading old magazines and watching your clothes tumble dry.

    photo Ryan Whynott

In through the laundromat, up a steep set of steps and we’re in Cafe Vienna, apparently also known as the land of visual sensory overload. There’s colour, everywhere, all sorts of colours, and on top of that, everything is multicoloured—placemats, signs, chairs, walls, you name it. It’s like the time I left a box of crayons (the big box, with the built-in pencil sharpener) on an old steam radiator, and they melted.

After letting our eyes adjust we make our way to a large counter, above which a chalkboard with the menu is hanging. I note that there’s also an all-day breakfast menu, which is always a good thing.

The menu is varied, Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine, cheap and healthy—plenty of vegetarian and vegan options too. Our counter attendant/hostess/cook (she’s all, yet none of these things—I’ll just call her our provider) helps us make up our mind and we take a seat to wait for the food. I look at the cluttered mess behind the counter and wonder how food can come out of such chaos, and my friend looks around at the mismatched tables and chairs, the eclectic decor, and observes that it’s like visiting someone’s first apartment.

Our provider brings our meals in short order: two whopping big servings of chicken shwarma ($8) and the falafel plate ($7.50)—which has an excellent reputation. The chicken is superb: moist, tender cubes lightly seasoned and plenty of it. The falafel is a bit salty, I’ve had better but I’ve certainly not had a bigger portion, so it’s still a passing grade for the plate. The hummus is very smooth and quite nice, although the pita bread that is served with it is unfortunately stale. The tabbouleh is more mint-y than parsley-filled, a nice variation. The fatouche (salad) that comes with the chicken has a tart, vinegary dressing that sports a unique taste that I can’t quite pin down, but it’s not unpleasant. Lentils and rice are very nicely done and a welcome foil for the vinegary salad.

Cafe Vienna defies description—it’s more like someone’s kitchen and not a commercial establishment, but don’t let its appearance fool you. There’s some very good cooking coming out of here, with a great low-price to large-portion ratio.

Appetites satisfied, we observe the comings and goings of the other Cafe Vienna visitors. Some watch the lights of the washer and dryer number board to keep track of their laundry. Some diners are obviously regulars, greeting others by name, and some stand atop the steps and look as confused as we undoubtedly did. But everyone leaves the restaurant with looks of contentment and big smiles, including us.
