  1. Casino Rama can be a good venue. I have seen a number of shows there. It is a rather small (approx 5000) hall with a decent stage and most seats have a good view. They usually have a small area up front where folks can get up and dance or whatever but unless you get into that area they seem to be pretty strict on keeping people out of the aisles and in their seats. The other draw back I have noticed is that probably because of the large number of comp tix the casino hands out, you can sometimes get into a crowd where the folks are only there for a free show and not into the artist or the tunes at all which can be a bit of a downer at times. Didnt know Winwood was coming but that should be good. Steppenwolf is indeed booked for this summer! I believe Grand Funk Railroad is as well. Also this month they have War for two shows. Anyone remember them? Should be a funky show ;)

  2. Ok I'll take that wager. Give me the Eagles +7 points. How about wagering some cds? Say 2 shows?

If you are looking for a sports book I highly recommend Bowman's International (www.bowmans.com) They have various methods of payment available, but if you were wanting action on the SuperBowl you would prolly need to use a credit card or they will accept Western Union as well. They are a reputable company and have been in business for almost 20 yrs.

  3. NEW YORK (Reuters) - President Bush's bold, uncompromising leadership and his clear-cut election victory made him Time magazine's "Person of the Year" for 2004, its managing editor said on Sunday.

Time chose Bush "for sticking to his guns (literally and figuratively), for reshaping the rules of politics to fit his 10-gallon-hat leadership style and for persuading a majority of voters this time around that he deserved to be in the White House for another four years," Jim Kelly wrote in the magazine.

Bush was also Time's choice to appear on the cover in 2000 after winning the presidential election despite losing the popular vote.

His father, President George H. W. Bush, was named "Man of the Year" in 1990 for what Time called his mastery of foreign policy and his wavering domestic record.

Last year the magazine picked "The American Soldier."

"Obviously many supporters of the president will be pleased, many people who do not support the president will probably sigh," Kelly said.

"But even those who may not have voted for him will acknowledge that this is one of the more influential presidents of the last 50 years."

Kelly said he and his staff debated giving the award to others including Karl Rove, the president's influential political adviser, and filmmakers Michael Moore and Mel Gibson.

The winner must be "the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or for ill, and embodied what was important about the year, for better or for worse," he said.

U.S. aviator Charles Lindbergh was Time's first "Man of the Year" in 1927. Some selections have been notoriously unpopular, such as Adolf Hitler in 1938, Joseph Stalin in 1939 and 1942, and Iran's Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1979.

  4. I'd be there. My personal opinion is that Dickey getting kicked out/leaving (whichever side you believe)ABB was the best thing that could have happened for both sides. Dickeys playing in ABB had definitely slipped and the band had become a bit stale (again that is just my opinion) but I have heard a number of shows hes done with the new band and they are definitely smokin! Same with ABB they seem to have gotten a new energy and focus since Warren rejoined. As for the price, Im sure it would cost a bit more to bring him to Canada, however the prices for his shows in the USA dont seem to out of line.

  5. Lets not forget also that Mr Kerry originally supported the war and would have probably sent troops in as well. Moore should really turn his tirades against the US govt instead of continuing to focus his hate on the guy who happens to apparently have the support of more voters.

  6. Doug, gotta say your initial impression of the ads is off base, it is *far* from pro-Bush, pro-USA, what it is is a devastating parody of that attitude ... At the same time, it attacks zealots on both sides of the argument, but it is definitely not a "Hooray for the USA" movie.

Thanks for clarifying that. I was planning on seeing the movie regardless. Guess this is just more proof of how the media can influence public perception and we should pay close attention before deciding on certain issues

  7. Haven't seen it yet myself, but I seriously doubt it is gonna be intellectually funny. Probably more trailer park boys funny. My initial impression from the ads and media I have seen is that it is very much a "USA=hero, commies&Arabs=terrorist villain" type of movie probably released just in time to encourage american voters to vote for Mr Bush. If anyone has seen it yet I would like to know if my assessment is close to accurate or very much out of line.

  8. World's runnin down

and people aint relatin to each other anymore

    Its a different sound

this aint no time to disrespect our brothers

cause we're all in this together

And if our mission's to be true

its got to start with me and you

so go and chance it for the planet

no time for, dont need war

for our children, no more killin

for all man, take a stand

if you think you can change the world....Jam On!

Together we can change the world

    Its a cryin sound

    when intolerance & hatred

break the silence in our soul

Where tears soak the ground, a flower grows

to prove that love's the power

    that still connects us all

and if confusion rules the day

just got to find a different way

For all man, give a damn

If you think you can change the world...Jam On!

If we come together for one thing

one cause, one song we can all sing

If wounds can be healed with a joyful sound....Jam On!

  9. The new cd from Steve Earle. Surprised more folks aren't talkin about this gem. Especially with its messsage of political activism. If you havent heard it yet, I highly recommend it. You might not always agree with Steve Earle's point of view, but he has a way of making you think about the issues he writes about. He makes a good point in the liner notes about the how struggle really begins after the election, because regardless of the outcome, the war in Iraq as well as all the other issues on the table will still be going on. And it will be of major importance that the citizens hold their elected officials accountable for their actions.

  10. Just wondering about peoples opinions on presidential debates( or debates between any other political opponents)--

Are people's opinions on who they will/wont support swayed in any way by the results of the debate or how a particular candidate performs? I find it hard to believe that with tonights debate especially, either candidate will sway voters from one side to the other.
