  1. Several NHL sources said the Minnesota Wild recently had offered up goalie Josh Harding, whom the Blues had legitimate interest in last season. But when Minnesota asked for Eller in the deal, the Blues said: "No thanks."

On Thursday, however, the Blues agreed to put Eller on the table, sending him to Montreal, along with forward Ian Schultz, for Canadiens goalie Jaroslav Halak.

When the Blues inquired about Halak, and asked Montreal general manager Pierre Gauthier what it would take to acquire the goaltender, Gauthier had one player in mind.

"They went right after Lars," Armstrong said. "Pierre honed in very quickly on a player that we didn't want to give up. It's a salute to his scouting staff and Pierre's talent evaluation.

"Obviously as an organization, we tried to push him in some different directions. But he always said that Lars was the player that they coveted. ... It's not like we were ever looking to move Lars."

Gauthier said that the Canadiens project Eller as a second-line center who has a chance to play with the parent club this season.

"I think Lars is almost ready to contribute for us as early as this year," Gauthier said. "He's been developing nicely, we watched him excel at the AHL level, and with his experience now in the NHL, he's a big centerman with a good shot who really competes."

Eller told the Team 990 radio station in Montreal Friday that the Canadiens welcomed him with open arms.

"What (Gauthier) told me was that they were happy to have gotten me in this trade," Eller said. "He said I have a good chance to make that Montreal team. It's going to be up to me.

  2. If anyone wants to quantify what more the Habs should have gotten in return for an unsigned goalie' date=' have at it...[/quote']

And therein lies what many are saying.

Why the rush to trade him? Why did they do it now if for such a little return?

(I'm simply asking you to think about these issues, not answer them)

And again, if the roles were reversed, how would you feel about this trade from a Habs fan perspective if this were Price instead of Halak?

I'm not the one complaining about the trade, you are...

BUT...if this was for Price rather than Halak:

    - The Habs would be paying Halak $4M+

    - The Habs would not re-sign Pleks

    - Halak would be the highest paid player in Hamilton in 2 years

    - I would marry a supermodel playboy wife

    - My cock would be 24 inches long rather than my meager 15"

    - Andre would have the gonads to step up and quantify what "better" or "more" actually means, rather than sidesteppin his original comment 3-4 times...your vag is showing

    - All the water fountains at work would be replaced with booby fountains and facewashes could happen all day

    - Chocolate thunder wouldn't age poorly

    - My career would be as a stripper bouncer

If we wanna talk in hypotheticals...

    I'm full of beer!! :)

  3. I agree with the move made, and it is made, for real, no hypotheticals.

I am glad Price is still in Montreal. Yes this is because my favorite goalie plays for my favorite team. Had Price been moved, he'd still be my favorite goalie on another team (hypothetically).

If anyone wants to quantify what more the Habs should have gotten in return for an unsigned goalie, have at it... I think the deal is a good one and Eller will be good young addition up front for very cheap for the 2010-11 season, and Schultz seems good on paper to add some grit and a few points down the road...

No one knows if Halak is more Roy than Theodore either... But that Roy guy was booo'd right out of town as the fans wanted, booo'd right into 2 Stanley cups in Colorado...

  4. I wish we could go back in a crystal ball 24 hrs and see how Deuce would have reacted if it were Price traded for the same return.

    Back to your hypotheticals??

    I aint sidestepping shit...

Sure seems like you are, just one example of what would have been better...one? Gimme something...Put words to screen which André thinks would have better than the deal that has been made by 2 actual GMs. One realistic example??

  5. I dont know what they should have gotten but I bet it is more than that had they timed it better. I also am willing to bet there are a couple of GM's out there who looked at this deal and thought afterwards "I would have given Gauthier more than that!"

Oh, you wanna bet on a hypothetical situation which can never be validated, ever? I getcha...cause that aint worth shit now is it?

Unless you wanna validate what "more than that" should have been?? But I've already asked you that, and you sidestep'd it :P

You're the one calling the deal retarded there Ole yeller... I think the Habs got compensated well for the asset that was moved and now can spend money wisely elsewhere on positions which are needed...

  6. Buncha whiners!!!

Halak has 2 half seasons played for Montreal, and yet people are referring to him as the team MVP...

Andrew Raycroft also had 2 good half seasons, and look at what happened there.

The habs would have had to open up the wallet big time for Halak based on high stock value right now.

The PRICE is right in Montreal, and he is only 22. Basically the same age as PK Subban, and everyone has patience for him. Price has excelled at every level he has played, and will someday dominate in the NHL. His stock is lower than Halak's right now, and when a bluechip stock is low, you buy in!!

Getting a first and 3rd round draft pick in return is good compensation. This Eller guy is supposed to be really good. Do people really think they were gonna get a top 6 forward in return for an unsigned goalie?? The Jeff Carter for Halak trade is laughable...

This move allows the Habs to resign Pleks and Price and move forward rather than breaking the bank on goalies...Halak was chosen 271st overall and was traded for a young 13th overall + 87th overall... that is good!

Anyhow, I'm just glad Habs management agrees with me, cause deal is done, and Price stays... AWESOME!

  7. Lars Eller - First round pick in 2007, 13th overall... 21 years old...very good potential, played 7 games for STL last year, 2 goals

    Ian Schultz - 20 years old, 6'3, 208, Canadian born...drafted 87th overall, 3rd round in 2008

Strengths: Very rugged and competes. Good fighter, drops the gloves frequently. Some goal scoring touch.

    Weaknesses: Can't skate. Limited skill.

Season Team GP G A PTS +/- PIM

    2009-10 Regular Season Calgary Hitmen 70 24 31 55 6 150

  8. Fine. I can't argue your internet fact checking with my scattershot brain right now.

Then who was it Mr. Holmes?? I remember Jose Charbonneau and Gilles Thibodeau being on the team as well.

You're probably remembering Red light Racicot being just that...but who am I to put logic to your illusions...

I did have to change my computer clock to 1987 to check it out though :P

  9. Mmm... Constructive as always Booche.

Yep. Always have been a goalie freak. How else would I remember such luminary Habs goalies as Vincent Riendeau, Olivier Michaud, JC Bergeron, or Richard Sevigny?

I remember when Riendeau got his first start as a Hab. I was driving with my family to the cottage and we were listening to the game on AM radio on Radio-Canada. The poor bastard got red-lit and I remember my Dad swearing up a storm in Polish that the Habs have useless players.

Must have been a helluva late night trip to the cottage, in the fall, on a Wednesday, while school was going on... But who am I to say you just made that up...

    You made that up...

Vincent Riendeau played all of one game for the Habs, in Calgary (10:00pm EST start on a wednesday), and was pulled after 36 minutes and allowing 5 goals...

AND... he was traded to St Louis in a deal which brought back their 2nd round pick, which = Patrice Brisebois!

    :P

  10. I'm with MrBigTime on this. It would be fuckingretarded if the Team B goal counted. What would be the point of instant replay?

If this was the case, and you thought you had been scored on, you should pull the goalie and go on an ALL OUT ATTACK to score to wash out the previous goal...

If this was the case, what if someone took a penalty after the goal had been scored? The penalty would count but not the goal..

Yes, these examples are crap... but just to show that the first example was obviously wrong and must have been taken from a comment on a board, and taken as fact, which is crappier

  11. Was thinking during that play last night about what would have happened if Chicago had scored during the 1:27 of ensuing play (since the play was never whistled dead). Which goal would have counted?

    Question

Team A scores takes a shot which may or may not have entered the net. The referee waves it off and play continues. Team B goes down the ice and scores a goal. Television replays show that the shot by Team A did in fact cross the goal line. Which goal counts?

    Answer

Only the second goal. Team A is out of luck in a situation like this. There are no provisions in hockey rules for instant replay except for situations where the clock has already stopped; going "back in time" on the game clock is not allowed.

A similar situation happened a couple of years ago in the playoffs between Buffalo and Philadelphia. One of the Flyers took a shot that appeared to elude Hasek, who was livid. The goal was counted, but after the ensuing faceoff someone up in the TV booth took a closer look at the replay and noticed a hole in the webbing of the net; the shot had actually gone through the side of the net rather than through the goal mouth, and should not have counted. If it had been noticed before the center-ice faceoff, the goal probably would have been disallowed, but since play had continued the goal had to stand.

I don't think this is right, because they did go "back in time" last night to when the goal was scored, and dropped the puck at centre with the same time remaining when the puck crossed the line.

I think your example is wrong, the first goal counts, as it should have.

    I think I'm right, [color:purple]I usually am
