  1. Ovy fills rinks. period.

He will always get some sort of preferential treatment, as did Mike Richards (which in the end only benefited Matt Cooke).

The marquee NHL players will always get preferential treatment, politicians will always get off easy for wreckless driving, speeding, and having coke in their posession, and you will always pay taxes.

    Welcome to reality

  2. Had I gone deeper into Colin's head:

3 games would have too easily apparent that it was only that long so he could return for the marquee game against the Pens, this way, that is closed for discussion, and they can still sell-out tickets for Tampa next Saturday.. WIN-WIN NHL!!

[color:green]$$$ It's all about the Benjamins baby! $$$

  3. In my view, Lapierre's was far dirtier. He could have pulled up because the play had ended...yadayadayada...

I can't see how the play had ended, the rebound off the post came right to Nichol and he was swinging at it in the air... The play was dirty by Lapierre, but at least the puck was there as he was hitting Nichol...

They will give Ovechkin 2-3 games (those next 2-3 washington road games tickets are already sold anyhow) any more and it would affect ticket sales for future Caps away games, and they want their CROSBY vs OVY matchup which is exactly 4 games away...

No way in hell they give him 4 games based purely on the Pens vs Caps game upcoming.

  4. The easiest way to solve this is that the player who injures is suspended for as long as the player he hit is injured.

Are you f-in serious? That is stupid on so many levels...

    - How can you determine how long that will be in order to assess his penalty

    - What does "recovered" mean (some players are never the same after hits like that)

    - What about fakers and embelishment of injuries?

    - What if Savard popped up, no suspension at all?

    - How does a GM manage his cap based on this kind of suspension?

Anyway, I could list reasons why that will never happen all day...

They just have to say it's minimum 8 games for a headshot to an unsuspecting player. Leaves grey area for them to increase, but at least sends the message that you're getting 8 if you do it.

  5. Technically, Kessel batted the puck to the the opponent (goalie) ... washout ... no rule of possession ... play lives ... goal counts.

Same as how they technically called the one Delay Of Game penalty correct (even though it is cheesy) when it was deflected out of the rink off the shaft of the Ottawa player near the blue line. It wasn't intentional, but rules is rules.

Man Kev, you are just full of wrong today, and being a dick myself, just thought I'd tell you you're WRONG ON BOTH COUNTS without going and looking up a rule in the official book, because I just know I'm right. An errant deflection out of play is never a delay of game, you have to intentionally hit it, it go off no one, and then its a penalty... I'm right

  6. Simply hitting the puck off the goalie with a high stick doesn't mean the goalie had possession of the puck, thus the high stick was a pass, which is blown dead. This is like when there is a delayed penalty and you get a shot off that the goalie saves but doesn't hold onto (offensive team retains possession).

Had it gone in off the goalie without Kessel touching it, it is still no goal as it was directed at the net with a high stick.

How can you say that was a good goal at all?

The only way the play goes on after a high stick is if the opposing team gets possession immediately after the high stick...which didn't happen.

  7. *yawn*

This was a real snooze-fest trade deadline...

It is so hard to get pumped for NHL after what we saw in the Olympics... and thEn looking over the names today of people who were traded, the common fan may have known less than 10% of the players moved.

1 word to fix this (even if next to impossible):

    CONTRACTION!

  8. He led the Islanders in hits and blocked shots. He has the second most blocked shots in the league with 153.

    Thanks.

So' date=' backup in case Volshotblockov gets traded?

    [/quote']

I would say it has more to do with having very little faith in the expereince of:

    Leclaire_medium.jpg

    or this:

    elliott1_full.jpg

Between the 2 of them, ZERO playoff games experience...

  9. We got exactly what we paid for out of this Olympics, and well done on and for us!

I think as a whole, we feel more "elite" as a country, due to the success of our athletes.

No matter what any journalist writes, no one can take away from what transpired this past Sunday alone. Hockey is a religion here, and most Canadians embrace it as such. I don't think we'll ever again see as much Canadian patriotism as we've seen over the past 2 weeks.

PS - And I also think it was great that we didn't see or hear Don Cherry once!!

  10. Is Sutton the big guy that used to suck in Atlanta? I presume he got better. Anyone know about his current game?

    Pros:

He led the Islanders in hits and blocked shots. He has the second most blocked shots in the league with 153.

Sutton is in his 11th season and has played in 567 career games

Looks like a decent shutdown defenceman, considering the fatc he is only a -1 and played on the islanders.

  11. Setting the bar for re-signing Price and/or Halak:

The Nashville Predators have given Pekka Rinne a two year contract extension with Year 1 being worth $2.8M and Year 2 being worth $4M. In his second season in the league he is 20-12-4 with GAA 2.80 and S% .902.

Halak has better stats than Rinne, but has played 10 less games. Meanwhile Price has essentially the same GAA, a 12-18-4 record, and a better S%.

He was gonna become a UFA, not an RFA... I think that makes a difference

  12. Some good points made by Mike Boone

Listen to Yogi Berra, for he is wise.

    As Mike Babcock is wise.

Wise enough to play Chris Pronger and Dan Boyle 3:46 and 4:00, respectively, in the third period.

Wise enough to play Drew Doughty and Duncan Keith 9:41 and 8:44 in crunch time.

But now Canada faces the ignominy of playing Germany tomorrow in the qualification round.

So tell us, Wise One, who is your starting goaltender?

Martin Brodeur was not good last night.

    Four goals on 22 shots?

    Flopping around like David Aebischer.

Shedding the shackles of the trapezoid, Martin F. handled the puck with all the aplomb of a farmer trying to kill a rattlesnake with a shovel.

Anticipating Brodeur's prefrerence for playing the puck on his forehand, the Americans overloaded his left side to excellent effect.

As for the weak liner to shortstop .... well, the less said, the better.

Not good, certainly in comparison to red-hot Ryan Miller.

And maybe, just maybe, Brodeur is too old, his Hall of Fame creer prolonged past its Best Before date by New Jersey's hermetic system.

Unless Canada is about to string together four Ws, there are going to be a lot of questions asked about this team's personnel.

Are Pronger and Scott Niedermayer better than Mike Green?

Are Jarone Iginla and Corey Perry better than Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos?

Is Ryan Getzlaf better than Brad Richards?

Is Joe Thornton the worst money player in the history of hockey?

Patrice Bergeron played 5:27 last night, while Jeff Carter watched the game on TV.

    Much to discuss.

    Have at it.

  13. Marty Brodeur = 4 GA on 22 shots = 0.818 SV PCT.. he sucked ballz

2 bonehead plays by him, and overall he didn't look quick or alert until he realized he may be pulled had he allowed one more goal.

If they go with Luongo vs Germany, they will be going with Luongo for the rest of the games for sure... how could you ever go back to Marty against Russia if Luongo wins against Germany??? that's dumb...

  14. Can anyone find the bobsled crash video?? They left the luge crash up there for days, but can only find pics of the bobsled and post interview where those juiced up guys feel no pain for screwing 4 years of training, get pissed!!!

CTV Olympic website is damn messy and full of dead links IMO..
