  1. The Wellington Street Theatre and the Kingston Folk Club are very proud to present the Jon McLurg CD Release Concert at the Wellington Street Theatre (126 Wellington Street, Kingston) on Friday, September 17. Andrea Gauster and Chris Morris are also performing.

Tickets are available at Brian's Record Option, Renaissance Music, and online at www.wellingtonst.net. Advance tickets are $5, or a $30 package including Jon's new CD 'Time Is Tall' and his previous release 'The Auctioneer.' Tickets will be available at the door for $10. Doors open at 7 PM for this all ages event.

Jon McLurg is a folk singer from Kingston, Ontario, who is currently supporting his third solo album 'Time Is Tall'. This remarkable album showcases his stunning songwriting abilities, and will be available on iTunes and in record stores around Kingston on September 21, 2010.

His lyrics display a rare and mature wisdom for a man of only 26. It's not often one can find an artist so deeply immersed in folk's roots. As with his previous two records, "Time Is Tall" is a seamless mixture of Appalachian folk, bluegrass, Americana, country, Delta blues, and Celtic influences.

Jon‟s influences are also very evident; Mississippi John Hurt, Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, John Prine, Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan. To pick out one in any given song is a challenge, which is a testament to Jon's skilful songwriting abilities.

It's not just in the writing with Jon McLurg. His voice is delicate, yet it never wavers. He sings each word like it's the most important lyric in the song. He‟s also a master fingerpicker capable of playing a variety of styles, which helps make his live solo performances as strong as the ones with his full backing band.

The songs on Time Is Tall exude a timeless feel. Neither uber-contemporary nor old-fashioned, the lyrics, the music, the production, the instrumentation all complement each other exquisitely to allow the songwriting to take centre stage. Each track has several inspiring lyrics that the listener can take with them when the song is over.

Jon has opened for Fred Eaglesmith, is a regular at the New Jersey Folk Festival, and he won the lyric contest in the July/August 2010 edition of American Songwriter Magazine for “Someone Thinks Of You†off his second album, 2008's The Auctioneer.

  2. guess you won't find out douchebag

Find out what? A link for all the Dick's Picks and 77/78 SBDs. Got me there.

Typical netiquette calls for you to ask people to PM you their email address rather than have them post it right in this public forum where e-mail extracting will likely occur resulting in an increase in spam traffic.

I'm sure anyone worried about their addy being harvested is intelligent enough to use the PM button ... I used one of my secondary accounts for this purpose

  3. it was his hip hop show ...

the biggest problem I recall (there were a few relatively minor issues that have slipped my memory) was that he posted on his website that the show has sold out, when in fact I had just told his management a couple of days before that we were hugely undersold. Tom Green told me when he got there that he had told a bus-load of friends from Ottawa to not bother coming because it was sold out.

We lost money on the show and received no compensation from the artist, which I strongly felt was due.

Overall, I found him rather unpleasant ... but I admit that my experience was tainted :)
