  1. Hey all,

Following on the huge success of the bands national Jazz Festival tour this past summer where they opened for the legendary Herbie Hancock, shared the stage with DJ Champion, headlined stages at the Victoria, Winnipeg and Montreal Jazz Festivals and capped it off with a well received late night performance at 10KLF, Moses Mayes swings back through Western Canada.

Joining them on the tour will be Vancouver's Girl Nobody and Moses will be performing music from their recently WCMA nominated record Second Ring. And to add to the mix, Blue Quarter's very own Bitou Mirza will be on the kit to add his talented self to the funk fusion of Moses...

  2. Sorry about no Nanaimo this tour - the Jazz Festival's had originally gave our agency a great routing then they complete abandoned it so we we didn't end up with a great routing this summer and had to cut short on many dates across Canada.

Don't worry! Our agency is already booking a fall national club tour to make up for such a short Summer tour. We'll also be unveiling a brand new set for the fall tour that you won't want to miss! Not saying this summer's set isn't great either ;-)

As for June 23! Hell yeah...we peed our pants when we heard the news. Herbie is the reason we started this band and continue making modern funk fusion. And if your a fan of ours you know we've played countless covers of his over the years.

Thanks for all your comments and enthusiasm all, we really look forward to playing as we did not do a national spring tour this year due to our commitments producing a record for Maiko Watson (great R&B from this lady, watch for that release!).

Again, we'll be doing an extended club tour this fall and playing many dates on our favorite Canadian Island :-)

On another note, sadly we won't be back at Evolve as they never asked us back :-( Protest this!!! ;-)

  3. Following on the foot steps of their top20 campus record 'Second Ring', Moses Mayes takes their explosive mix of funk fusion and house on the road for their 'Second Ring' National tour which touches down on many of Canada's Jazz Festivals and clubs.

Shows with Herbie Hancock, Wassabi Collective, Novillero, the Hummers, Andrew Spence and Vancouver's hippest underground venue the Doll House are all included in the tour.

Moses’ new record Second Ring, produced by Jamie Shields (the New Deal), was released on Nov 7, 2007 to critical acclaim here in Canada and the UK. Make sure to check the record that "...shows that while the godfather of the genre may be gone, his legacy is alive and well. Fusing funk, disco, acid jazz and old-school hip-hop, Moses Mayes steps up and takes funk in a fun, contemporary direction." - Halifax Chronicle Herald

  5. You may hear a Herbie Cover, if so, it will be Heartbeat - man, we haven't done Chameleon in so long! We also do a killer version of Hang up Your Hang Ups.

We'll see how long we have to play and if we can squeze a Herbie song in there it will happen.

Looking forward to the show(s) people!

  6. Yeah, no Island this time...we'll be back through in the summer by the looks of things. But as always, things can change ;-)

The new record is much more funk fusion orientated, but it can jump around alot too. The EP was a great thing for us, we made all those tracks over the winter in our studio, Mark wrote a good blog on myspace.com/mosesmayes about why we did that EP. Expect a pushed effort on the instrumentalson the new record and vocals that really show you what we'd sound like if there were vocals on all our songs.

    see you at the shows,

  7. Hey all, lots going on with Moses Mayes…

Moses Mayes third full length album ‘Second Ring’ coming out November 7, 2006!!!

That’s right people, Moses Mayes’s third full length ‘Second Ring’ will be released nationally in Canada on November 7, 2006 through Fusion 3. Produced by Jamie Shields (the New Deal), the 10 track record features guest vocalists Sherry St.Germain, Ariane Jean & Phatt Al and includes some classic Moses instrumentals and epic jams! Touching on elements of ol’ school funk fusion, Moses puts its stamp on this classic sound with their modern house elements and turntable cuts. This new CD showcases the amazing talent that the band has recruited over the past year combining the bands live show with a more focused studio effort.

Rock it So Hard Summer Tour Video

For the first time ever some sorta Moses Mayes video thing! Seriously! Filmed over our two month tour this summer across Canada and some parts of the USA, this 14mins video was filmed to show the people what it’s like to be on the road with the band. Watch show clips, boring and funny things that happen in-between the shows! It’s all here in our first every tour video! Check it out at www.mosesmayes.com

And that’s it….whew…lots of news huh? More things to come is our official CD release party, Central tour, plans for 2007 and the Western Canadian Music Awards in Winnipeg…..

Thanks for checking with us and see you at the shows!

  8. The Duhks are a 5 peice celtic, bluegrass fusion band from Winnipeg (of course ;-) they are signed to SugarHill Records in the USA and their last album sold about 60,000 copies in the USA. Bela Fleck produced their last record and they have a new one coming right away (I believe they have been on tour with Bele all summer too).

Since that release they haven't really pushed the record much in Canada but I think that's all about to change. Check out their site at www.duhks.com, they have our long time percussionist Scott Senior holding it down full time for them.

They are an amazing band with all the elements for a good time and great music!

Scott will be joing Moses Mayes for the set, as will local MC's Phat Al (God Made Me Funky) and N.I.Gel (Pocket Dwellers).

Hope that helps, see you all this friday.

  9. Hey all!

The band is sounding better then ever and we've just come off a West tour so the band is tight and best to get down too. We have some new players with the band and they've raised the bar so much I can't believe how good it sounds every show.

We just played the 10,000 Lakes Festival to a very receptive crowd - we played during Phil Lesh's mainstage stage so it was a huge surprise to see peeps that don't know who we are down south checking out the band. 10,000 was a top notch fest and highly suggest checking it if you ever can, great festival ground and a stellar lineup.

We now head to Ontario and Quebec, we haven't been in you neck of the woods since last summer - can't wait to play for you all. Also, our first trip to the East coast in four years! Here's a list of dates, see you then!

Jul 28 Harbour Front Toronto, ON

    Jul 29 Maverick's Ottawa, ON

Jul 30 Boodha Bar Montreal, QC

    Aug 2 Neptunes St.John, NB

Aug 3 The Capitol Fredricton, NB

Aug 4 Evolve Festival Antigonish, NS

Aug 5 Evolve Festival Antigonish, NS

Aug 8 Elmocambo Toronto, ON (with Pocket Dwellers) this show was just added!

See you all then, make sure to check out our site at www.mosesmayes.com and www.myspace.com/mosesmayes to check out the tracks from our new EP.

Also, we're mixing our new full length which should be out in October!

    Cheers,

NEW Full length album due out this Fall>>>>>

Moses recently finished up in the studio recording the bands follow up to Needle to the Groove – we’re super stoked about this record and can’t wait to share it with you. We’ll have more info in the new record soon; look for a fall release on this one!

That’s it for now, we’ll see you all this summer…

  11. Sorry guys, Hamilton may be off the map this time - we have a couple more shows tba out there but again, don't think Hamilton will be there. If you want to make it happen, get the promoters on our agents at Paquin Entertainment ;-)

We'll be back in the fall, we have another release coming out. This one is a full length and is more band driven with more vocals mixed in compared to the new EP. The record was produced by Jamie Shields of the New Deal and damn!!! it sounds brialliant.

Hope to see you all out - hopefully we'll add some more shows on our way home from Evolve.

  15. Wow, no Canmore Hotel!

Moses Mayes has played many, many packed shows in this place...so many memories from the 6 years of western trips there. Good memories of this place include: Summer 2004 & 05 were by far the hottest and sweatiest shows, the woman who lived upstairs that stuffed her pants with toilet paper, the countless bottles of rum they supplied us with, the first couple times we played there in 99 & 00 and the ensuring parties upstairs, and the generous people/friends of Canmore and the visitors that made us feel at home for a couple days to work off tour weariness....wow.

Here are some Moses Mayes photos from the Ho from March 05:

Just go, I guarantee you'll enjoy if you like heavy rhythms with dj cuts and great horn hooks...
