Alot of the majors have already met and are making decisions and offers right now. However, non-major acts can still get on the bills for most the majors. It may be very hard however. The Major Jazzfests hold national meetings in fall and again this month. Most decision are being made right now and it can be very hard to get in as of now. Suggestion is to contact the program directors for the festivals. They make the final decisions and can most likely get your band on a free stage or opening slot for decent $$$ and rider.
Get moving now, most agents pitch there bands to all summer festivals in november/december and start getting offers right now. My band has been getting summer offers in this week, so you can get a picture of the timeline for summer bookings at small and major fetivals.
hope that helps!

yeah, people always spell the name wrong. we used to use a much larger name with the funk family orchestra, but promoters and clubs alike spell it wrong on many occasions.
see you all soon...

It's not so much the drive, it's the venues, they seem to not like us very much i guess I think the last time we played ottawa was at the Mercury Lounge and it sold out. But they dont do live music anymore and zaphods don't know us, so, they don't book us.
A, the wonderfull world of booking acts, we have agents, so it's really hard for us to get involved, sometimes you just want to do music and forget the biz part...know what i mean?
i'm buggin to get the gig in ottawa though.
thanks guys, any help would be great too if you know of a gig we can play? anyone want moses mayes in ottawa for sept 14, 15 or 20? Let me know asap!
cheers!

Yeah, Wakefield was a bit different, lol. As for Ottawa, still awaiting confirmation but it seems Ottawa has become our new Edmonton...we havent played there in awhile and our routing always makes Ottawa a missed thing. We hate it, trust me.
Keep tight, hopefully something works out..
Cheers

2005 The Winnipeg Folk Fest - The Gourds!!
in Soundboard
Posted
Being born and raised here i sorta like bragging about winnipeg. Like the Simpsons stated when they came to winnipeg to buy perscription drugs, our welcome signs states: "Welcome to Winnipeg - we were born here, what's your excuse?' ----> classic!
But yeah, we have over 10,000 lakes here and nobody living here, so you can imagine how many pristine lakes you can swim in here (when it gets warm). These are also only 1 to 5 hours away - i do suggest visiting the Whiteshell provincial park, it borders Ontario and features lots of fresh water lakes carved into the rocks that make the canadian shield. Love it there, spend every minute i have there when im not home.
As for the folkfest, its most likely the craziest festival around. Last year it had some really bad press cause of some assholes that invaded the campgrounds, but generally this will be on of the best experiences you've had. 4,000+ campers in a field, drums and music all night and they even had a dj tent last year - go folkies! I missed it last year, i was playing the montreal jazzfest (which is also amazing), but you wont be deissapointed if you go.
And hell, if living/moving here kicks ass. Rent is cheap, beer is cheaper, weed even cheaper then beer and we have some of the best bands in Canada - like the Weakerthans, The Waking Eyes, the Duhks, the Peanuts and Corn Crew, Moses Mayes (hehehe), Wailin Jenny's, Propagandi, the hummers, mood ruff, bacteria buffet records, the blue meanies - lets just say we have a overload of great music here.
anyway, hope that helps - go Jets!
