  1. I feel badly...and I just wanted to apologize to all.

Luke really does put himself out there, his personal life for better or worse is contained in these pages for both for our amusement or betterment…the follies, the fu©k-ups, and I hate to admit, also his *unique* insight. It's not very cool of me to use my obscurity as an advantage to mount a personal attack (no matter how much he pisses me off!)...We all fu©k up time to time, and we all deserve some dignity. He deals with his own consequences and associated demons without the help of an outsider.

And so henceforth, I will refrain from any further attacks on Luke's character…..unless over time, I establish myself on this board, prove my worth (or not) and expose my weaknesses and achilles heels (as Luke does) and consequently earn my right to go toe to toe with him in that arena.

I have PM'd Luke as well to aplogize.

    Love,

    xo

PS - our weed IS better. I challenge you all to a "Puff-Off"….

I'm kidding of course, truth is that our outdoor environment (climate, terrain, etc) is better suited for outdoor crops than Ontario's (from what I'm told). The indoor strains are only as good as the grower.

Best I've smoked was "charas" (indian finger hash, hand rubbed) from a small mountain village in the Himalayas (in the Parvatti Valley to be specific) called Manali. Delicious. Choc full of heady heady goodness.

  2. Thanks Ahess, let's open the floodgates then, shall we....?

For Luke: Dude, I won't even bother addressing any of your maniacal ramblings. The kernal of truth as to why I come here is that I am fascinated with YOU, no other reason. I can't keep away from lurking on this board because I am afraid I am going to miss the next "Kungism". The next fu©k-up. The next blow out. I stop by weekly and scan for your name alone. I wait with baited breathe until the day after the show or the Monday after the festival for the Skank reports to start coming in. And I'm always disappointed when I find that you didn't get to the show. "Zero", "Kung", "whatever" is a cut rate comic book character villain. One dimensional. Transparent. Predictable to a tee. And entertaining as hell!

One day, when I have time, I will spend a few hours doing a "collage of quotes" of all the times you have lost your sh!t and imploded, swearing to never post on this message board again....all the honorable mentions of you creeping out people out at shows with your compulsive obsessive behaviours....all the mention of bands and industry people who have written you off, banned or barred you or just straight up assaulted you (pure comedy)....all the times you have called all your "friends" on this board "a bunch of dimwit fuckwads who can't think for themselves and have no command over the english language." (yet they still defend you? they are good friends indeed!)...all the times you have used the words "I HATE".....or how many times you have threatned people with physical violence (yeah, I know, you know kung-fu or some sh!t)...or that you are going to narc on them (my personal favorite).........or how many times you have said that you are "choking on your rage" (that's always a little unnerving?) ..... it's all here, baby, archived for the world to see, and that sh!t is gold!

As for your "dishing the dirt", it's disgusting and morally reprehensible and should have no place in a forum for fans of music. You have no fu©king shame and no fu©king class. You think that just because you fu©k up publicly so often that these people should have their "dirty secrets" exposed (to make you feel better about yourself?) I shudder to think of how you justify this to yourself. Oh wait, I seem to remember something about it being OK to stand up in front of the band and distract them by giving them the finger? Must tie into that? I can't remember the reasoning now....Kauffmanesque? Irony? That's a nice explanation. How bout we step a little closer to the truth with another big word "narcissistic".....the root of this maniacal behaviour is to draw attention to yourself. period. I wish we had a Kung out here. Our "westie pussy" bouncers tend to frown upon patrons who harass the artists. I would love to see a neckless agro security dude "correct" that sort of intolerable behaviour, to the glee of all attending the show who are there to share good vibes with the artist and fellow show-goers.

I have asked myself a couple of times why I even bother wasting my time responding to you, now and in the past.....and the only reason I can come up with is that no one else does.....either because they agree with you? or because you bully and threaten anyone who disagrees with you? Either way, here I am, baby.

    Love,

    xo

  3. howdy Sugar Megs and fellow Skanks, Spudly Dudley - west coast lurker extraordinaire here.....

I can only speak for myself, but my voyeuristic nature on this board is partially based both in fear........and I must confess some loathing (of sorts).

Fear that is borne from an over-all general shyness (the #1 cause of lurking) which is highly exacerbated by the ever watchful, ever - judgmental (and ever-rolling) eyes of "the Skank panel" (you know who you are). That, and for whatever cosmic reasons, my posts, however light hearted in nature, generally wind up being thread-killers that inspire vitual tumble weeds. I know many of my west coast bretheren have attempted to post here and have been met with the same silence. No, I'm not talking about the Uni-baller, or Deke "the Kung slayer".....just good average honest westie folk wanting to share an opinion or two on music with other music fans....

The loathing I speak of is of certain elements of this board that seem to be largely supported for the most part. I for one largely support the aggitation of fecal matter (stirring of sh!t) - understanding that it is necessary both for the development of ideas, to provoke thought and to facilitate the questioning of one's own beliefs......but some of the sh!t that I see talked about and supported on here is counter culture and based in hate, IMHO. I lurk in horror at the "dishing the dirt" threads that seem to be more than tolerated here. Am I the only one who see's something fundamentally wrong with this? That sh!t is HURTIN! What kind of music fan supports that? And I'm not the biggest SCI fan there is, but the bashing that takes place isn't even entertaining in the slightest anymore. It always originates from the same place and the reasons for it are painfully transparent and have nothing to do with their music and scene (just one injured person's ego). It's very old and very very stale.

I'm not the biggest Bus fan (not my bag), the Slip is not GOD to me (though I do like them), the Fatties are OK (a well seasoned top notch bar band), I am patriotic but do not support the term "CanJam" (reason's for which are a complete rant of its own - I'm just glad it's not used with the same frequency that it used to be), I "Give'r", but I just do it "west coast style" (same as your give'r, just done with better weed)....and I don't live in or get to visit O-town, brown town, K-dub, etc etc....though they all sound like wonderful places with great up and coming local bands and healthy scenes full of wonderful eclectic groups of people, the good the bad, and the ugly, both hip and dysfunctional, ....it all sounds alot like home to me (cept we got better weed).

Maybe the Skank is a tad Ontario-centric? (I'm personally a Montrealer (west island, Pierrefonds), far enough removed that je ne pense plus en francais, seulement en anglais, cris estie de colis de sainsi boire du tabarnac dis donc pierre et helene vont au discotheque)...That's all fine, I guess....there is a forum for East, Central and West, with some cross pollination going on for those brave chameleons. Maybe one day we will be unite and be as one....

For the sake of humor, fun,....and love...

  4. I've read all his books numerous times...My personal favorite author! and he is definately a male......he lives in a small town just north of Seattle off the I-5 called La Connor and he does readings throughout the area...you may notice that a great number of his books take place in the Pacific Northwest....(ie - Switter's Grandma lives on the harbour in North Seattle in Fierce Invalids.......The Hot Dog stand is on the I-5 in Another Roadside Attraction (my personal favorite book).

He has a zen writing style in that he writes his books sentence by sentence....purposely avoiding thinking about how the story will progress. Working in the moment, sentence by sentence, page by page...when he is done a page, he sends it to his editor who locks it away. His edict is to never change a page that is written.

    for example:

The opening line to Another Roadside Attraction is "The Magician's underwear has just been found in a cardboard suitcase floating in a stagnant pond on the outskirks of Miami......" He types that one line and then spends the rest of the book himself discovering who the Magician is and how his underwear came to be in that suitcase in Miami....he looks back at what he wrote, but he never plans ahead to what will happen. Sometimes he spends a week on one sentence, sometimes he gets several pages done in one day.....

The guy puts out a book every 5 years or so....and is a frickin genius IMO, Don't let "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" steer you away....his worst book, and a horrible movie!

  5. Ahhhhh AFN, better than Fox.....

Hamilton, best head down Chongmyo road to Nam dae Mun market for a woof woof bulgogi and then head over to Itaewon for to get humpy-humpy love you long time shitfaced, but watch out for the MP's and also the puddles of puke on the sidewalks.... [Wink]

Is the vodka still cheaper than coke at the 7-11's?

I hope you have a large collection of CD's to tide you over for your stay!

    Kamsa Hamnida

  6. I remember freaking at the concept of live sampling when I first heard Didg, but now it seams to be old hat....everyone and his dog is using loops and the like nowadays.....

Keller has it licked (he uses a JamMan I think) but even Trey has been using the loops for some time....ALOT of peeps have that Line 6 delay modeller now (which has a 14 second loop - great for "jamsterbation")

Jimi Didg, GO FOR IT!!! It's not like you are stealing the concept from Graham, you are merely "sampling" it...... [Wink]

  7. I am kicking myself Weezy for missing out....I was super stoked, but then the holliday hangover bug got the best of me (ugh-lee Sat nite)....parylyzed from the eyebrows down all day Sunday.....Can't wait to hear a tune or 2.....bring it on!!!!!

A review? How many peeps made it out? Dance party? Much blending? Much improv?

  8. G is also very conducive to Neil Young....so get a chin strap, grab your acoustic and I'll drop a couple of loonies in your gig bag outside of the liquor store.....or do you guys get to buy your booze cold at the corner store like it should be?......damn......

  9. I love the Houseman's suits. He's so styley. [Roll Eyes]

Hey Weezy, do you remember that Vogue show.....when Theryl looked down at the first couple rows of cute lil hippy girls and said in a Barry White-like drawl "This next one's goin out to all that Vancouv-uh Pussay...." [Eek!] talk about barking up the wrong tree, preaching to the wrong choir....he ruined all my female friends e trips in one sentence.....they were are like "ewwwww, he's gross".....

  10. Man!!!!!!!!! That's a sad state of affairs, when someone of the the caliber that is Dr. Didg can't make a living in the biz..??!?!?!

We in the west are all terribly saddened.. [Frown][Frown][Frown] ..we had many a huge dance party, packed with hopped-up, sparkled-up, glowied-up, dancing fools all grooving to Graham's sweet tunes!

It's nice to have physics research to fall back on as a second gig though?!?! (as opposed to dishwashing)

Jimi Didg, what are you all about....? Do you do dabble in "live sampling" as well? are you here to pick up the torch and run with it? [Wink]

  11. Maybe this should be a string unto itself....?

"Audience members being bitch-slapped by the band"

A few months back at the Commodore Ballroom, Danzig bitch slapped an irate fan much to the delight of the rowdy audience....apparently this happens quite often with ol Lenny....have you seen this guys pipes? I'd hate to piss him off....

Then there the footage (ever seen the punk rock movie D.O.A.?) of Sid Vicious "taking exception" to a fan in the front row of a San Antonio gig (first US tour in '77?) ......WHAM!!! Bass Guitar crashing down upon skull....OUCH!!!!

    Good times, good times......

  12. My wife is upset about the recent passing of Stereolab's Mary Hansen (?) so we have:

    2 Stereolab

KVHW (New Years HJ Kaiser SF 1999 - I was there!!! - pre first Other Ones New years post Jerry show)

Particle (wicked Live House from LA)

Pickin' on Zeppelin (has anyone heard these discs.....a friend just gave me Zeppelin and Pickin on Santana......covers by bluegrassy pickers - dobro, fiddle, banjo, mandolin.....it's wicked!!!!)

    Isn't music EVERYTHING????

  13. Unknown....? In Canada you mean.....

The US has 10 times our population and consequently has 10 times the number of bands that that are at "CanJam" level (sell out bars in their home town).....and 100 times the number of bands that actually tour from coast to coast with a dedicated following....

Cross the border, go to festivals, surf, open your mind, let the border dissolve and let you music tastes not discern political boundaries....you will find that there are COUNTLESS amazing acts that will suit your musical taste...

Don't get me wrong, I am a proud Canadian, but when it comes to music, I don't discern....I judge on what makes me smile, laugh, and cut rug.....

  14. Soooo long ago, I can't actually remember the first....it may have been

    Kiss

    April Wine

Eagles (at Super X! w/ Chilliwack)

But shows I did see in the 70's/80's that make me blush....?

    Village People

    Joan Jett

Styx (when they were good....Grand Illusion tour?)

MET Corey Hart!!!! backstage at the Forum. (arrogant prick) he backed up April Wine

Iron Maiden (Number of the Beast Tour - oh yeah!!!)

  15. Hey all, long time.....

Oh yes, Garaj Mahal is something special indeed! Have seen them 15+ times now....Top 5.....maybe Top 3...?

Fareed Hague is a genius....Born of Chilean/Packistani heritage, he is the professor of Jazz and Classical Studies at the University of Illinois, so you east coasters just may be able to catch him in one of his other incantations (perhaps the Fareed Hague Group - which boasts tabla & DJ - but maybe they are based on the West Coast....?) ONe of his favorite and main instruments is an acoustic guitar/sitar hybrid (a la John McLaughlin) and the guy just shreds it up....I'm always surprised the thing doesn't catch fire on stage! This past run in BC he flew in and didn't bring an axe so rented from L&M (bastards)....almost settled on the Bo Diddley special, but then spotted the double neck (Epiphone) Jimmy Page special, so this is how it was for the week-end....(he also borrowed a few axes from local folks, so some variety was had....

Kai Eckhardt is a bass phenom...He played with John McLaughlin Trio way back when (check out Live @ Royal Albert Hall with Trilok Gurtu on "drums") - if John M asks you to play with him, you must be a prodigy - the guy is sick, funky, heavy, switches between all genres at the drop of a hat....

Alan Hertz has played with Trey, Steve Kimock (KVHW), and is completely unique in his sound and approach to the kit....his drumming is a unique voice in the mix.....

Eric Levy is a former student of Fareed's....wicked keys, sounds like a guitar player at most times!

Unfortunately they haven't toured beyond the West Coast, but if you e-mail their mgmnt via their website www.garajmahal.net , and pester your local promotor, you just may be able to get them booked in your area!!!

Sorry for the rant, but this band excites me!!!!

  16. I play stringed instruments (banjo/mandolin/guitar/sitar/bass) mainly.....my first song??? Rainbow Connection by his greenness would have to be it. first real song all the way through would have to have been Stairway to Heaven.....

Why the stigma on covering that tune????? Zappa did an amazing version with Ray White....... (if i'm not mistaken...)

  17. Kung, have you considered that this could be as a result of your post:

    quote:

Been totally debating making the trek west for Calgary and Vancouver Cheese. The Slip and New Deal make the decision easier but still dicey. Anyways hooked up free tics, press passes and after show and I'm still not for sure.

I don't know how anyone else felt when they read this, but as a non-music-industry ticket buyer-type who supports live music through buying tickets to shows, I thought you caste a very poor light on the industry people with your pompous attitude.....and to look the gift horse in the mouth by slagging them was pretty ballsy I thought.

    quote:

It's just that they don't really mean anything to me.

When I click on your profile, I can see that you are associated with www.northerheads.com ... doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how they could have found you out....did you maybe mention that you are associated with that website when you requested the tix in the first place? Or have you been talking down on the Cheese and bragging about how you get comps on your site as well?

I'm a phish head and a cheese head. Actually more of a music head. Believe me, there are assholes on all sides of the fence and in every arena. Anyone who tries to lay blame here on anyone but Kung for him losing his tickets should take a step back and look at the big picture.....

  18. Willy, there's a very good chance you are going to see a SHITLOAD of people at the Cheese! You'll recognize me, I'll be the dready with the shit-eating grin, spakled with sparkles, performing my reknowned "boneless, appopleptic arm dance". Come and say hi.

Weezy! you should head to the ND AFTER the cheese (honor the boys, they don't come here often) you will only miss a bit of the ND this way.....They are playing up in Whistler the night afterwards...(I know, I'm broke too, this is turning into a shit kicker of a month......)

Hey, how come Ravi didn't make the watchtower?
