  1. Didg is a regular here in Vancouver, and man can the guy throw a dance party! You really gotta love the trance drone....he is a master of live sampling and is fairly known throughout the world from his previous projects (Outback) and a famous appearance in a tent at Glostenbury, UK using a battery powered generator (where he stumbled upon his technique)

We saw him do a "set-blender" (love that expression) with STS9 here a couple of years back....

I have seen him play with DJ Harry and the Cheese during their first Hornings appearance (Full Moon Dream Dance craziness).....Awesome!

I saw him play a tear jerking version of "Breathe" with Keller Williams and Joe Craven (from Grisman Quintet - who played a 5 gallon plastic bucket) at a High Sierra a couple of years ago.....

  2. My wife dragged me out to see the Rheo's last year, albeit reluctantly, What a pleasant surprise! I had no idea that any Canadian band had such a devout fan base....there were faeries and elves and folks with YES! stickers all over themselves.....

The cover for the evening was "War Pigs".... need I say more....

Martin Tieli, dude can SING! and his songwriting is incredible.......

I won't miss them or him again...you folks in TO are lucky to have them playing fairly regularly! (What is this 7 show run at the Horseshoe Tavern?)

  3. Bouche, Sasquatch! was great this year! The Gorge is one of the most stunning venues to see music this side of the rainbow....cept for the Corporate bullshit of course (there's a good article on jambands.com regarding this)

Blackalicious cancelled, Ben Harper solo was a snoozefest. Galactic was incredible, Jack Johnson, well, I still don't get him, but hey, he's an anamoly to the promotors - from zero to HUGE in 1 tour...girls throw their panties on the stage!?!?! (man, I wanna be a rock star)

John Butler is great in a festival setting, But the Cheese!!! Holy shit! In that setting, made the trip all worth while! But don't take my word for it, cuz I'm biased like shit (self-confessed cheesehead).

  4. Favorite NEW bands? There's alot of goooood shit out there...Every festival I go to, I walk away with a new handfull of favorites - High Sierra is GREAT for this (or BerkFest for you East Coasters....) This years highlights for me and new favorites:

    Garaj Mahal!!!!!!!!!!!

    Jacob Fred Jazz Oddyssy

    Network:Electric

    Particle

    Global Funk Council

Marco Beneveto & Joe Russo (anyone heard of them? NY cats with regular gig at the Knitting Factory - B3 and drums - siiiiiick - perfect moment: Zep, Four Sticks)

    The Living Daylights

Forgive my lack of Canadian talent, bin heading south for so many years, and our local band scene out West is just starting to get cooking, and I haven't caught many of the Hipstar bands (cept Blue Quarter who are coming along very nicely - what an incredible rythym section!)

I keep hearing bout Nero, but need to see em live cuz the MP3's just don't cut it.....

  5. Hey all, first post! (just found this site)

Warren is the total package...one of the best voices in the scene - hands down - and a shredder to boot! This would truly be a sad day, but I remember feeling the same way when Kimock parted ways, woe is P&F!

I have seen quite a few P&F's with different line-ups, and it is always good, with Phil laying down the back-bone, he really does bring out the best of his band mates.

Who knows, maybe he'll pilfer from the Tricksters again - Jeff Matson can sure hold his own, but is a little TOO Jerry for my likes....
