He has helped create the new fresh style of ghettoswing, combining elements of big band and swing music with breaks and hip hop. He has also received support from the biggest names in ghetto funk, and experimented fusing different sounds into new subgenres. He has been released on three different international labels, but holds true that giving his music away for free is the best option. His live performance is always one of a journey. He switches tempos, moods and sounds to fit the time and place, and brings the audience for a ride that explores many facets of bass music. Whether he’s mashing up classic songs you grew up with or smashing your face off with new beats and rhythm’s, he is guaranteed to make you move! Lush (Toronto, ON) http://www.djlushtoronto.tumblr.com LUSH describes his sound as Jungle Music at 130, 140 and 175 bpm. Sounds crazy? Maybe, but with Lush the single most dominant trend over his 19 years of DJing has always been unbridled passion for the music that he plays.Widely known and respected as a pioneering Jungle/DnB DJ in Canada, the DJ’s DJ as he has been frequently called by his peers has been a “student†of the art of DJing and a fol lower of the Hardcore Continuum from Hardcore thru to Jungle, into Drum & Bass; and forward onto the current genre less mutations and hybrids of Bass music. Whatever style Lush chooses to play, the underlying theme is always music with feeling and soul, with a heavy Junglist leaning and room shattering bass. He approaches it all with the same enthusiasm and razor sharp precision.A true champion of the underground, Lush has always been respected as a DJ who takes risks breaking new music and setting musical trends, but yet somehow putting it together in such a way as to always have the viewpoint of the dance floor on his side throughout. His super technical rolling mixing style has been his trademark though out his career, winning over crowds and other DJ’s alike with his high energy puzzle piece mixing. Lush’s connection with the people on the dance floor comes from his years of being in raves himself, always out in the crowd taking in all the of the sights, sounds and energy of the music and scene that he loves. The DJ’s DJ shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Farbsie Funk (Toronto, ON) http://soundcloud.com/farbsiefunk/farbsie-funk-bustin-out-the Farbsie Funk, founder of the Make It Funky Collective got deep into funk at Mo’ Gravy in london in 1996 prior to that his musical influences were formed in the jam band scene traveling to over 400 shows across North America. Having collected thousands of records over the years in 2000 He first stepped up to the decks and the formative years for the Make It Funky Collective began. In the years to follow Farbsie has been spreading the funk gospel and grooving dancefloors across the country. Fusing funky breaks with mowtown sounds, hiphop, calypso, reggae, and classic rock, Farbsie continues to push the boundries of where a dj can take you. Building a journey for the dancefloor that will have you smiling, shouting and singing along as you dance the night away. RoLo (Toronto,ON) http://soundcloud.com/rolo-yyz/dj-rolo-bloomin-bloomers Inspired by good times dished out by the Make It Funky Crew over the years, RoLo decided to take to the decks. Starting with the local Burning Man community and growing with their support, he vows to bring the gospel of all that is fun and funky to parties that are less fortunate. www.makeitfunky.ca Get on the reduced guestlist now! 4. Hi Jay, Track sounds nice, well recorded, was that done at Snappy's Home studio? Intro reminds me on Jimmy Cliff's Harder They Come. Nice message of being the best you can be. Is that your guitar solo? if so nice one. Horns are nice addition, some nice builds. Toronto misses you, coming back anytime soon? Hope to see you at Irie Fest or Rasta Fest or Hippy Fest...
  5. somehow playing "Staying Alive" doesn't seem like a fitting tribute...

  9. this should be good.. it's been a long time since I've seen the Fatties. I did hear recently that Joel Stouffer formerly of the Fat Cats, won a Juno as a part of Dragonette... so indirectly the Fat Cats owed some praise for aligning themselves with great musicians. see ya there!
  10. Hey There Skancs! Heads up - Philly live-electronica pioneers are back in Toronto at Legends of Funk Party www.makeitfunky.ca w/ DJ Czech and guests. Fans of The New Deal, Disco Biscuits, STS9, Brother's Past will enjoy this incredible duo that blurrs the lines between a jambands and a DJ with their impeccable chops. Shows in Toronto with Dynamo & Badnutbeats and Chameleon Project have been hot, now Bidiesel plays a larger venue in the Dundas West/Ossington area alongside Breakbeat pioneer DJ Czech - a madman on the decks currently living in Czech Republic and coming to Toronto for his birthday jam. One night only folks! more info here: www.makeifunky.ca Facebook Page here: http://www.facebook.com/events/174805819294060/ Biodiesel (live Drums & Bass) www.biodieselband.com BioDiesel lies in razor-thin space between band and DJ, synthetic and human, man and machine. The duo is an inventive collaboration between Johnny Rabb (pioneer of the freehand technique & the original World’s Fastest Drummer) and Clay Parnell (Brother's Past & go-to bassist in the Live Electronic genre) Naturally, when you take a world-class drummer and a celebrated bassist who are also passionate producers, the elements are there for a super-charged ensemble that shatters boundaries and dares to take the musical genres they explore to thrilling new places. Blowing the doors off a theatre or working a festival audience into a frenzy … BioDiesel is the cutting edge of tangible electronic music.
