MAT THE ALIEN
http://www.myspace.com/matthealien
Let's clear something up. Technically Mat is not an alien. He was born near Manchester and moved to Canada in the mid 90's to follow his snowboarding addiction But that's where things get weird. On the flight over, the airplane was overtaken by what appeared to be a massive electrical storm over the Atlantic and was out of contact for thirty minutes and when it reappeared it was in essentially the same spot as before-." Alien contact? I don't know, have you ever heard Mat spin records? He had been dj'ing since 1998 and developed his style while working in his family's record store in Bury, England (opened by his dad at age 4, but it wasn't until after he arrived in Canada that his turntable abilities suddenly jumped to new heights. Heights later described by Knowledge Magazine as, "Awe inspiring. Some next level shit." "Who knows what happened on the plane?" he says. "I think If I can reproduce that alien sound , I should be able control minds and communicate through sound to people from all over the world." Mat has toured across the globe , pioneering 4-turntable club nights in Whistler and Vancouver, and with crates as deep as a black hole combined with mixing and scratching skills he is considered among the best by anyone who sees him , Mat was chosen to represent Canada and rock the party at Canada House during the 2006 Winter Olympics. He has produced many mix c.d.'s, released his debut self produced c.d. Downtime and been busy making music for T.V. show's and scratching on video games including N.B.A. street Homecourt for ea sports. Mix c.d. highlights are the 2002 C1RCA Presents Knowledge Magazine Mix CD, which showcased his ability to blend several styles of music seamlessly. Over 50,000 copies of the CD were distributed worldwide, to critical and popular acclaim. The follow up was C1RCA Presents C1pher 2004 which also featured DJ Dopey, the 2003 World DMC Champion and made big waves throughout the global d.j. community.Next up was a collaboration c.d. with u.k. beatboxer Killa Kela and next in line is a mix with the scribble jam 3 time champion Scratch Bastid. Mat has also changed the way people play records with "Mats Mats," slipmats for 45's allowing Dj's to scratch and cue 45 rpm records the same as they would a 12-inch, there is also Boca 45 (dynamo productions ) run of Matsmats At shows mats , pristine mixing of many genres and scratching techniques really does sound like it came from another world. Did Mat really get abducted by aliens that night,We'll never know but one thing is certain- Mat the Alien is capable of some out of this world shit and when Mat does find "that mind-control sound" the world will become a safer place.

Fort Knox Five (Fort Knox Recordings) The Fort Knox Five have had a huge impact on the international funk and breaks scene over the past couple of years. With the release of five critically acclaimed singles on their own independent label, Fort Knox Recordings, the FK5 have been thrust into the spotlight and caught the attention of music lovers around the world. FK5 flawlessly fuse live instrumentation with modern electronics to create their signature funk-driven sound. Their highly sought-after production style has been called upon to remix incredible artists, including: the legendary Tito Puente, Louis Armstrong, Tower of Power, A Skillz and Krafty Kuts, Dynamo Productions, and Mo'Horizons. They have also been called upon by the godfather himself, Afrika Bambaataa, to produce four tracks on his recent album "Dark Matter" on Tommy Boy Records. Recently, they have been back in the studio with Afrika Bambaataa and King Kamonzi to record a smoking new single called "Radio Free DC." FK5's unique DJ style ranges from eclectic downbeat & hip hop, to upbeat funk and breaks. Their keen sense of party rocking has gained them countless fans around the globe. They have rocked dancefloors in Russia, Germany, Hungary, Holland, Switzerland, Australia, Thailand, and Canada to name a few. 2005 was a pinnacle year for the Fort Knox Five, having just been selected into the prestigious Urb Magazine Next 100, and featured on the Hotel Costes Sept Compilation, FK5 have also teamed up with the English Funkateers, Skeewiff, over at Jalapeno Records. Together they compiled a breakbeat funk compilation called, The Raid. It featured exclusive tracks and remixes by Skeewiff, the Fort Knox Five, and Kraak en Smaak. These tunes all come from the back catalogs of Fort Knox and Jalapeno. A major turning point in 2005 was when they were selected to be Gwen Stefani's tour and show dj on the Harajuku Lovers 2005 tour. Being a part of this, they had the opportunity to open sellout shows with Gwen Stefani, and the Black Eyed Peas. They were able to play massive arenas, such as the Hollywood Bowl, Madison Square Gardens, and everywhere else in between. Next up for the Fort Knox Five was the release of the New Gold Standard Vol 1, which was the first CD release for Fort Knox. It is a compilation of songs coming from the vaults of Fort Knox. Solid 24K Gold! They released in 2007 a mix CD of their best remix work entitled "Fort Knox Reminted". FK5 worked closely with Krafty Kuts, Afrika Bambaataa, and Wicked Lester. Keep an eye out for their first full length album out Spring of 2008.

Hey Ocean is a young band with a remarkable talent for blending various musical styles into a brand of infectious pop that is uniquely their own.
The beautiful melodies and clever lyrics of singers Ashleigh Ball and David Beckingham have been described as both poetic and thought provoking, however it is apparent that these two play off each other effortlessly. The duo - who have had a long-standing musical relationship - are joined by the wildly energetic David Vertesi on bass and the groove-obsessed Daniel Klenner on drums. Together, they have created a musical repertoire that cannot be ignored – be it on radio, television or your neighbor's iPod, Hey Ocean will soon be everywhere.
Following the release of their first full-length album, Stop Looking Like Music (2006), the band has quickly become one of Western Canada's most popular touring bands. With an impressive online presence and an ever-growing fan base, the foursome has been garnering popular and critical attention at an astonishing rate. Having shared the stage with the likes of Bedouin Soundclash, Xavier Rudd, Sarah Harmer and Wintersleep, their onstage charisma and playful demeanor continue to capture the hearts of listeners – both young and old.
Passionate voices, pensive words and contagious fun keep this music honest and pure; from the heart and for the soul.
When asked what fans can expect from their sophomore release – which is set for a spring release - the band candidly replies "a bunch of songs that sound nothing alike. However, they will be unmistakably Hey Ocean".
Continuously leaving fans in awe, Hey Ocean combines sheer talent, charismatic songs, and an undeniably energetic live show, making them a "must see" band for 2008.

EVOLVE 2009 FESTIVAL OFFICIAL
in Soundboard

For my money this looks great. I am not expecting Evolve to compare to Rothbury, Ottawa Bluesfest or Bonaroo - but I think that the line up speaks for how far the festival has come in 10 years from a small party in the woods to a special music and message camp-out with 2-3 Thousand maritimers.
p.s. I'm a huge A.Skillz fan - I think that's a great booking! check out his Beatles Remix work
