That's the setlist except the first 'new tune' was 'Just The Same'. 'Jeremy's Tune' was 'Dictionary Car' and the encore was 'In The Belly', which contains lyrics about Thunder Bay etc.

heard the latter with reference to the military Unlawful Carnal Knowledge

Easy there pardner. Let's not overlook Downtime easily one of the best bands in Canada these days. Alot going on for a trio. Great originals and wicked flawless covers: Baba O'Reilly, Roses Are Free, Piper, Mama Said Knock You Out. Ladies love cool James.

I was just over at the University yesterday and was told their playing in the basement (Peter Clark Hall). I believe there is a license but I don't know about the student/nonstudent policy. I'll look into it a bit further and get back.

Greco donairs most definitely do not rule

completely jealous Heady one. Didn't want to make the trip down in the end. Partly because the boys are doing an Ontario run over the next few weeks and figured I'd take in a few of those shows. Jealous indeed.

I put up a link to an even handed review of Burt Neilson's show in Guelph and wondered where it got to. I didn't think posts were edited off this board but can't find it anywhere.

I don't know what this is supposed to mean:
"Either way he plans to take Shane home at the end of night"
I do not appreciate these homoerotic aspersions toward such a great band. Just not funny.

Burt's playing tonight (Tuesday) at the Albion in Guelph in Mike's regular weekly spot. Will drop the word on the show tomorrow.

for equally amusing tour stories check out Estradasphere's site. Their tour reports and news section give you a grim glimpse into the world au Estrada.

I just downloaded it as well. It is a good tune. Great band to see live. Their originals kick ass but I have to admit I have a fondness for their unabashed use of some covers....Piper...

I'll try to work on my headiness factor. Bring it up a little more in your vicinity.

... haven't heard that... forgot to mention the Alumni(!) and Jungle Book song... are you talking about the Cosmic Krewe/Phish show in NO... that was '95 my bad...
-
That is pretty damn interesting. 'He plays in a little rock band you might have heard'.
-
Just tossed this on not expecting to like it but the run through the second set with the GCH is pretty hot. Greenberg> Landlady> Julius. Wolfman's is nice with the horns- different song really.
-
Where did you hear that? I'm so there. I hope they have spider man and a wookie.

Those guys at Upstream are impressive in the events they put on. Not the greatest line-up I guess but the whole concept is awesome. Plus they seem to bring in everyone else of consequence.

sounds like a shotgun wedding to me

I don't really find him that funny but for some reason find him rather endearing. Jon Stewart is hands down the king of late night- that much is agreed. He is able to do so much with just looks and double entendre without coming off as cliched. I saw John Stamos on the Late Show recently and after the whole interview is almost up Stamos tries to squeeze in the plug about 'Thieves' at which point Jon just gives the iffy hand signal and that was about it. Or when he asked the dude from American Pie whether he thought his penis was going to get typecast, or when Posh Spice couldn't appreciate whatsoever Stewart's sarcasm and said that 'british humour is more sarcastic' to which he responded 'you really didn't pick up on any of the sarcasm? I have been practically dripping with sarcasm'- Baby Spice got it which was kind of the kicker. But Bullard ain't that bad he's either really on or really off. His strength is more as an interviewer than a comedian though.

It does come off as arrogant but I tend to agree with this comment I read on the Slip's list:
"It is a letter that EVERYONE needs to read. If you can look past the
ego-driven "I played with.....so I know how to play...." there are some
seriously REAL elements to the letter. Mainly DO YOUR OWN THING! I also dug
the dig at the young musicians that name drop without any referentiality.
Just too real."

I'd really like to get on the bus but I hate the fucking maritimes and am not looking forward to going back anytime soon. That said it's really just Nova Scotia that I hate so who knows. In TO I'd have to get with Heady Allan, I mean Zimmerman on the New Deal call. But I'll definitely stop in at Burt to see how it's going.

Jazz musician Bob Moses is definitely stirring up some thought in various music circles, largely our own, throughout the US. It's a letter he wrote to the Boston Phoenix in response to a recent 'tribute' to Mingus. Well worth the read and directly related to our scene.

Funny you should mention it... Met a kid from Athens, Ohio the other day and he was talking about how a girl friend of his slept with Mike and how Mike would show up on occasion at parties that you would never expect him to i.e. cheesy parties you weren't too happy to be attending in the first place. He made out like Mike was a big gigalo which I'd never considered but believed from his accounts. Always new Fish and Trey were real sluts but somehow figured Mike for a good guy or something.
Oh buddy also said that the Dude of Life was Paige's boy, which is to say that the two of them grew up together and that he was more connected with Paige then the whole band per se.

Brad Sands - Road Manager
John Palooska(or something like that) - Business Manager
Lars Fisk - Visual Designer
Girl I new went to Palooska's (what is his fucking name anyway) wedding with Lars and babysat Trey's girls for a bit or something. Maceo played the reception.
From what I know Dionysian and Great Northeastern are kind of seperate entities in a way that are usually just a few guys and swell to the size they need through taking on contractors and what not.

Remember not so distinctly seeing them play on the summer solstice ages ago at Riverdale Park in Toronto and a few of us were peaking into the early evening. They played San Berd'ino now that someone mentioned it.
