Very last minute...I totally forgot and don't even know if I will personally make it, but this is an event in Hamilton tonight----- Hamilton Area Eco-Network and Environment Hamilton Present: Thursday, May 3, 7:00 PM Climate change: from Despair to Empowerment Join Australian John Seed – speaker, author, filmmaker, successful activist, and rainforest guru Join us for a presentation and informal discussion with John Seed, who has put rainforests and ecology on the radar of global environmentalism since the late 70s. Author, film-maker and rainforest and deep ecology guru, Seed is stopping in Hamilton on his international tour with a presentation that will help our community address global warming. As founder of the Australia-based Rainforest Information Centre, he led bold, theatrical and humorous campaigns which won major set-asides for rainforests in Australia and pressured Burger King in the U.S. to cease sourcing soybeans from Costa Rican clear-cuts. He’ll offer his reflections on catalyzing, invigorating and supporting the climate change movement and share with us his approach to raising awareness and generating personal and political action. He urges mindfulness at a deeper level. He co-authored Thinking Like a Mountain (1988), has made several films on ecology, and in 1995 was awarded the Order of Australia medal by the Australian government for services to conservation and the environment. This is a free event, but donations will go to Seed to help pay for his expenses.
