  1. kev and I live for this show! All other tv series pretty much suck (except for documentaries and travel and what not). We didn't watch it for the first year and then decided to rent the first 3 episodes. We were so hooked that we went back that day, got the rest of the 1st season and junked on it like crack addicts! Ever since then, we have been pure addicts....I love this show. You definitely have to watch it from the very beginning and don't skip any seasons. BEST SHOW EVER!(almost)
  2. Congrats! So awesome! Glad to hear ya made it through and that baby and you are healthy.
  3. Lots of good suggestions so far - stress reduction, good natural-sourced multi-vitamin, and smoothies. A few more suggestions 1. A good medicinal mushroom blend. Mushrooms are fabulous for the immune system plus, mushrooms like reishi mushroom are great for stress, high or low blood pressure, angina, strengthening the lungs, cancer, high cholesterol and the list goes on. A really good one to look at is one by a company called New Chapter Organics. There products are way above the rest. Here is a link to a good formula. More and more health food stores are carrying their line and if they don't have this one, they will order it for you...worth the cost. http://www.newchapter.com/product/product.lasso?-Search=Action&-Table=P_Web&-Database=NewChapter&-KeyValue=147 2. If you smoke, this depletes vitamin C. Take about 2000mg of Vitamin C per day. Downdose this if it gives you the runs but most people are good at this level. Don't use chewables as they have sugar or sugar substitutes which compromise the immune system. 3. Zinc lozenges (aka sublingual form) about 1 per day. 4. Echinnacea in capsule is a great preventative. Take as directed. Once something comes on, the powder is no longer effective and then tincture is best at that point as it acts differently in the body. 5. Something that I have been finding very successful is Elderberry. I was taking an extract in a lozenge but these were quite expensive. Now I get this Baja tea with Elderberry, Echinnacea, Rooibos and a few other things. Then I take about a teaspoon of dried Elderberries and add that. Steep covered for 10 minutes. Drink once a day. Everyone has been getting colds and (knock on wood) I haven't yet since I started taking Elderberry. 6. If making smoothies, add some form of a "greens" product. 7. Probiotic is also good for keeping the bacteria balance in the body. Unfortunately, the ones they are sticking in cheese and yogurt etc., really do not have any theraputic value as the levels are not high enough. Not saying that eating it is bad, but if you are trying to rebalance your flora, it just isn't going to cut it. 8. Vit. B50 Complex (1 cap/day) and Vit E. (mixed tocopherals) 200-400 IU a day also help with the body's ability to heal. 9 Great tea when are actually sick is: Hot Water, Ginger Slices, fresh lemon juice and a dash of cayenne pepper. This tea gets circulation going and the cayenne soothes the throat. You could also add a dab of non-pasturized honey as an anti-bacterial and throat soother. Also just a plain Yarrow tea will help bring about a slight fever (which is your body fighting infection). Drink in the evening and stay cuddly warm - wear clothes to bed so you sweat. Shower in morning and you will feel much better. HOpe that helps you and everyone!

  12. Hey all! I have an exam coming up for my final in Indian Head Massage and I am looking for volunteers to perform the massage on as practice.....FOR FREE! For those new to Indian Head Massage, here is a brief overview. What is Indian Champissage ?Indian Champissage, also known as Indian Head Massage, has been practiced in India for over 1,000 years. It is a form of massage that focuses on the face, head, neck, shoulders and upper arms which are important energy centers within the body where tension accumulates resulting in stiff necks and shoulders as well as headaches. A firm and gentle rhythm is used to release blockages and relieve tension and pain. This form of massage combines physical massage with a more subtle form of energy balancing which affects a person's energy centers. This Ayurvedic element of Chakra energy balancing focuses on the three higher chakras. It has a powerful effect and can bring the energy of the whole body back into balance creating a deep sense of peace, calm and well-being. The treatment is done fully clothed, sitting in a chair. Some benefits include, but not limited to: 1. Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage to the head, neck, scalp, face and shoulder area 2. A deep sense of relaxation and a feeling of total well-being 3. Relief from headaches and migraine 4. Relaxation of the muscles of the head, neck and shoulder area 5. Stimulation of hair growth, improved lustre 6. Improvement in concentration and memory 7. Relief from anxiety and insomnia 8. Alleviation of eyestrain 9. Healthy skin 10. Confidence and improved self-esteem So if anyone is interested in a free session to help me out, let me know! And in case you didn't know, some other things that I do are Hot Stone Massage (1.25 - 1.5 hours of pure indulgence), Herbal/Nutritional consults for different ailments and conditions, Detoxification/Cleansing consultations, and Iridology (reading of the iris or coloured part of the eye to show state of health in organs and tissues). All these are at a cost though but contact me if interested...I could really use the business ...oh, and I do sell gift certificates. Thanks!

  19. Oh how i love thy muppets! I can't choose my favourite really, because there is so much awesome in all of them. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a muppeteer and actually told people that my mentor was Jim Henson!! Crazy young one was I!!! I can't believe they are going to do another Dark Crystal. I keep seeing the first one in the rental store but Kev doesn't want to rent it...geezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I think I am going to get it anyhow!!! Muppets are the best thing to happen to us as kids! Kids are so muppet-deprived these days.
  20. HAPPY Birthday Nellie!!! I'm sure you will have a good one. The 24 b-day is always good it seems.
  21. oh ya, that's the other thing I wanted to say. Just so ya know, you don't actually get any calcium from milk - no matter what your age. That's not to say that there isn't calcium in milk. Confused yet? Well, our bodies like to keep calcium and phosphorus levels even. Cow's milk does have calcium but it also has phosphorus in way higher amounts. When we drink cow's milk, our body wants to even out the levels of phosphorus and calcium so in order to do that it actually begins to pull calcium (from ie. the bones) in order to level it with the amount of phosphorus. So really, cow's milk can actually deplete you of calcium. Dairy is big business. I read something a while ago about how when they first came out with the food guides long long time ago that there was somewhat of a "money exchange" or maybe a sponsorship or something between the food guide people and the Milk industry and the beef industry too actually. I should find where I read that. None the less, don't believe everything they tell you. I once told my sister that Lysol (and things of the like) were bad for your health. She said "why would they sell it if it was bad for you" ---ahh the ignorance is bliss but I'd rather know the truth.
  22. It is quite possible that the babies who are allergic to their mama's breast milk are in fact, allergic to something she is eating and that is being passed on through the milk. I personally will not use formula ever but if that is what works for someone then so be it. I wouldn't use rice milk or soy milk either. If anything, homemade almond milk is best next to breast milk, in my opinion. It is full of calcium, iron, trace minerals, thicker (like breast milk) and has tonnes of EFA's (essential fatty acids) which are key to the brain, eye, joint, connective tissue etc. development of the baby. I think the problem with this story is that it does not articulate. What I mean is that there are a lot of people who call themselves vegetarian lets say, who don't eat very well at all. My step-grandma for instance says she is vegetarian yet she eats so much processed stuff that is full of chemicals that are very detrimental to your health but just doesn't eat out-right meat. Like those Yves veggie meat replacement foods...read and understand ingredient labels...sure its not meat but it is full of hydrogenated oils (trans fats) and other fake stuff that your body does not recognize and in turn causes dis-ease in the body! My step-gran is probably 350 pounds! Being vegetarian or vegan are both very difficult diets, especially if you have no idea what balanced nutrition is. A lot of vegans and vegetarians get sick simply because they don't get enough protein. But these diet can be extremely healthy when you understand what a human body needs. It is too difficult to judge this as "feeding a baby a vegan diet will kill it" because really, if it was done properly, the baby probably would not have died.....but then again, maybe it was the baby's time...who knows. Friends of mine feed their child breast milk and vegetarian maybe even vegan and this child is super healthy. She still gets some colds like every other kid, but those build your immune system anyways. My 2 cents -- it's been awhile
  23. it does seem quite worthwhile...too bad more people don't think so. I hope I can go tonight but I have been fighting a recent sinus affliction! Damn sick people makin me sick!
