  1. Hey

    My 2 cents...

I'm predisposed to not like Jian G. (I met him once in the 90's and he was an ass)

So when I watched this i expected to understand BBT's point of view and feel some sympathy...and I just don't.

He has been around journalists long enough to know that their job is to serve the story and not the subject. BBT made the story about his attitude when he started acting inexplicably (and repeatedly) strange--which he later admits to.

A first year journalism student at Ryerson would feel the need to ask him why he did that.

Gomeshi did his job and BBT hung himself (although I wonder how many hits the Boxmasters got on their website yesterday).

    Weird day.

PS-That flu thing is hilarious. It seems to me that if it were true it sounds so stupid that you'd make something else up.

  2. Hey!

I saw the show on Thursday night.

    SET LIST:

    I Can't Explain

    The Seeker

    The Kids are Alright

    Fragments

    Who Are You?

    Behind Blue Eyes

    Real Good Looking Boy

    Baba O'Reilly

    Getting in Tune

    Sister Disco

    Eminence Front

    5:15

    Love Reign O'er Me

    My Generation

    Won't Get Fooled Again

    ENCORES:

    Naked Eye

    Pinball Wizard/Tommy Medley

Overature/Amazing Journey/Sparks/Underture/We're Not Going to Take It

    Tea and Theatre.

    Cool set...

    It rocked from the opening

(with the exception of the oddly "elderly rock" feel of Fragments)

Who Are You gets more heavy every tour.

The band was absolutely on fire from Sister Disco through the end.

    and...

Roger's voice didn't show any signs of giving out at all. He sounded better than he has since before 2002.

    Cool,

    Jef

  3. Thanks Brad.

    Your awesomeness abounds.

I actually tried searching that site...I apparently suck quite a bit.

If anyone else knows of any direct (megaupload or whatnot) downloads that'd be supercool also.

    Jef

  4. Hey all!

    Help please.

With Trey about to go out on the road again I'm reminded of the shows I didn't listen to at the end of 2006.

    I meant too...

If anyone here can point me in the direction of some audio (or video, I suppose) from those winter 2006 shows I'd be quite grateful!

    Cool,

    Jef

  5. In an era when record companies have managed to all but decimate the artistic credibility of popular music, to the point where the average person seems to regard music as background filler, I have the urge to applaud any new-ish (if questionable) attempt at distributing music of substance.

Keep in mind that many of us music obsessed folk love the "surprise factor" in the discovery of (and subsequent obbsession with) newly found music...well...if the record industry can't muster this anymore, let's see if it can happen for people at the coffee shop.

  6. Two things.

Season five of WW is questionable but still has high points ("The Supremes" and "Shutdown").

Six and Seven are unquestionably a different show...but a very good show.

Studio 60 was a great show...just a bit scattered. I suspect it would have been fantastic if it had continued.

Plus, I'm pretty flippin pumped about "Charlie Wilson's War" which is the new Sorkin movie coming out in December...

    Jef

  7. Hey.

I found this piece of writing almost as fascinating as I find FACEBOOK.

I think it's just about dead on.

The truest evidence of Facebook's dominance of is it's meteoric rise in the last year AND the fact that it has not even been slightly challenged by any competition thus far.

It's reaching the peak of its product life-cycle without any credible imitators.

It's almost not even a brand name or a product...it's practically a new medium.

It is to the internet what VHS (oh, and myspace was betamax) was to movies.

    Think about it...

    Jef

  8. Hey all.

    Jeff Jones here.

Join me while I rock. Or "folk" or "quirk"...if you will.

I've been invited to play the "Best of the Open Stage" again. I'll be playing a set of original tunes (with some familiar bits too) at the Free Times Cafe on Tuesday April 10th.

    I'll be on after 8:30pm.

The sound of what I do is best described as Mike Doughty meets Ani DiFranco via Jeff Tweedy.

Listen to crude basement demos here.

    Date:

    Tuesday, April 10, 2007

    Time:

    8:00pm - 11:00pm

    Location:

    Free Times Cafe

    320 College Street

    Toronto, ON

    Cool,

    Jef

  9. Popper's obssesion with weapons and the like has been an open secret among hardcore BT fans for years.

When I worked tech at the HORDE show there was a special Popper roadcase on the second stage's truck that no one was allowed to touch, move or open. When the (american) road manager heard a quip about drugs he got quite haughty and defended Mr. Popper by explaining that this was his arsenal, yes--i shit you not--he used the word arsenal.

    Jef

  10. And furthermore, the use of the word gay in this context was meant to imply "stupid, silly, dumb", which is ANOTHER definition imposed by cultural influence.

The root, or cultural influence, of this definition is highly suspect, actually.

    GAY=BAD

    Consider the cultural influence.

    Gay means happy, right?

Homosexual people were called "gay" for apparent, albeit humourous, reasons (ie. "he's just seems...um, happier than normal guys")

How do we get to bad?

Well...The word faggot means a bundle of sticks to be burned (sobering when you consider why this has come to mean homosexual also, no?)

Faggot developed into "fag-end" which refers to the burnt end of a stick...the useless or BAD part.

So the definition could more accurately be tracked as

    FAG=GAY=BAD=to be burnt

Are you still comfortable with this definition?

    Jef

  11. As a teacher, I think this a great example of an educator opting to not educate.

Yes, comparing "gay" to "stupid", "silly" and "dumb" is at least painfully ignorant if not offensive.

and...yes, the fact that this girl's excuse is the very thing that is offensive makes me want to require parents to undergo a written test to prevent mandatory abortion.

...but, this was a chance to teach students why what the student said was wrong.

    A sadly missed chance too.

I'm tired of people expecting schools to be perfect environments...they're not. They are filled with ignorant people (some of whom go on to become ignorant lawyers, I'm afraid)...that's why they exist.

So say what you want...just be okay with being informed of bigotry and ignorance.

    Jef

P.S.The parent sued over being sent to the office??? You just know that her teachers LOVE parent interview night.

  12. Hey folks.

    If anyone feels like it...

I just jumped into this century and wanted to let others know.

Thought I'd put up a couple basement demos and some info in advance of me playing more shows.

    My my space

    Enjoy!
