ForbinHood
Canadas coolest band, with two juno awards in th ebag, is bidding for another with its fourth release, The Recline. The CD features telepathic grooves established by huge backbeats, three big name guests and 10 original tunes that hark back to the best days of Miles Davis electric rock jazz and fusion champions Weather Report. Metalwood's relentless mix of straight ahead loose jazz, funk and torrential stream of fresh, driving ideas takes the concept way beyond jamband repetitiousness and ensures broad appeal. The quartets Toronto saxist Mike Murley, fretless bassist Chris Tarry and trumpeter keyboardist Brad Turner from out west, and new york based canadian drummer Ian Froman demonstrate infectious enthusiasm for exploration and not a little mischief. They get smart contributions from John Scofield, percussionits Mino Cinelu and turntablist DJ LOGIC. Brush up on your foot tapping technique.. the quartet headlines Toronto Downtown Jazzfests open air party bash on University ave June 30 Geoff ChapmanSounds good to me!
