Discover's SICK West Coast April calendar

Hello all.

Well, it looks as though we've gathered a bit of steam and things are rolling along nicely. We have secured 4 different venues on 4 different nights every week to showcase our fantastic roster of original "live groove" bands. Each night keeps getting busier and busier every week, and more amazing bands seem to keep coming out of the woodwork to join in the fun.

Here is what we have in store for April...

Every Thursday, we've taken residence at Kitsilano's SIDE DOOR CABARET (2291 West Broadway) for "Kits Gets Groovalicious". The venue has been kind enough to give us an unbelievable selling point to draw in not only our usual crowd, but others from the Kitsilano area and MANY university students... that point being: $2.00 hi-balls, $3.50 doubles and $3.00 pints every Thursday.

Here is how we shape up for April:

April 3rd - Orange Whip (psychedelic surf music)

April 10th - Brickhouse (Vancouver veterans lending a hand to their fellow "live groove" brethren)

April 17th - Kaejema (Sunshine Coast funk-dub-jazz monsters)

April 24th - Slammin Jack (Vancouver's most original groove based band... just try to limit them to being musically defined)

Then... we continue our momentum in the downtown Vancouver live scene every Friday at THE GREEN ROOM (695 Cambie) with "The Art of Groove". As it is a regular weekend gig, and we LOVE playing to packed houses on the weekends, we double up the action every Friday and present 2 bands... starting at 9:30 PM... with a scaled cover charge. (free before 9, $5.00 before 10, and $7.00 after). We've also spiced up our Fridays with an incredible visuals show every week presented by Bent Matter Visuals (of Burning Man & Shambhala fame), and prizes from Puff Pipes.

Here's what's to look forward to for our Fridays in April:

April 4th - Tala (out from the East Coast!!) with guests Kush (good old southern style jams, ie.Allman Brothers Band)

April 11th - Kynkayd (6-piece jazzyfunk originals with brass!) with guests Kaejema

April 18th - Slammin Jack with guests Kush

April 25th - Themasses (live disco-house funktronica) with guests The Herd (acoustic grooves from the old school)

We continue rolling out the grooves with our VERY SPECIAL weekly Saturday gig at THE GROOVE PUB IN THE WALDORF HOTEL (1489 East Hastings @ Clark) for our "Set Blender Saturdays". Saturdays are a special time in Discover's week as The Groove Pub has a stage large enough to allow us to have both the evening's bands set up onstage simultaneously. What this allows for us to do is to run a SEAMLESS NIGHT OF LIVE MUSIC!! Starting at 10 PM, our first of two bands begin their set for the night... then near the end of their 2 hour set, members from the second band slowly "tag in" to the action, joining in the grooves and improvising new "magic"... until eventually we have both bands onstage together as a "supergroup" in the middle of our evening, which eventually leads into the second band's set (around midnight) SEAMLESSLY... so no-one has a reason to leave, or stop dancing, or catch a breath!!! This has been an amazing way for us to go into uncharted territory... and to form strong bonds (as well as great listening skills!!) between all Discover's acts. Again... Saturdays are enhanced with visuals by our great friends at Bent Matter Visuals and prizes from Puff Pipes

Our regular Waldorf Saturdays (we had to impress the bar before we got a regular weekend residence... and that happened last Wednesday night!) launch this Saturday March 29th with an amazing set blending performance by Slammin Jack & Themasses (Them Slammin Jackasses).

Here's how the rest of April looks:

April 5th - West Coast Funk Mob (live funked out hip-hop) & Kaejema

April 12th - Doppler (D)efect - (live drum'n'bass/jazzyfunk a la Medeski, Martin & Wood) & Transit 5.0 (Improv -Radiohead style)

April 19th - TBA as "Vinyl" are in town from San Francisco with our good friends from Upstream Entertainment

April 26th - Kynkayd & Themasses

And finally, we continue our regular weekly Sunday night "get recharged for the upcoming work week" at THE FAIRVIEW PUB (898 West Broadway) with Discover's "GROOV-e Sundays". Our Sunday night has been growing consistently since it's inception 6 weeks ago as people look for entertainment that gives them something good to feel about going into the week ahead.

Here's how Sundays shape up for the next month:

March 30th - Kaejema

April 6th - Kynkayd

April 13th - Slammin Jack with guests The Herd

April 20th - 4:20 PARTY with Beluga, Kush & The Herd (show starts at 8:00 PM)

April 27th - West Coast Funk Mob

So... that's how things shape up for the next month in Discover Entertainment land!! We've all been working really hard to build something that will get people out to support great live music on a consistent basis. Myself, the bands, our fans, and all the people helping to spread the word all over town are very excited at the future prospects for a new level of expectation among music fans here in vancouver... and with regular weekly nights, we feel that the groundwork has been laid for a healthy future here in Vancouver's "live groove" music scene.

Thank you all very much for keeping the dream alive and lending whatever it is each of you bring to the table to keep the ball rolling and gathering momentum. Festival season is coming, and Discover artists will be mixing things up all over the place... including some of them heading out to tour the country and leave their mark on our friends out East!!

If you have any questions or would just like to talk and find out more about Discover Entertainment, our artists roster, or our music circuit, please don't hesitate to call or drop an e-mail.

Thank you all very much!!

Keep Funk'n Groovin!!
