mark tonin Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 I just received this press release in an email. It sounds like a great event! Hopefully some of the KW crew can make it out to this. Here is the press release: ----- UW Drum Circle (519) 886-5902 uwdrumcircle@hotmail.com http://watserv1.uwaterloo.ca/~uwdrum PRESS RELEASE Contact: Nancy O'Neil (519) 886-5902 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Drumming for Peace: Kitchener-Waterloo's Largest Drum Circle Kitchener-Waterloo, ON - The University of Waterloo Drum Circle is hosting a free community drum circle on June 5, 2004. Event organizers anticipate this could be the largest drum circle ever held in Kitchener-Waterloo. All ages are welcome. Bring your family and friends, as well as any drums and percussion you have, and lawn chairs. If you don't have a drum, you can create one out of empty plastic water jugs, pots, or pans. The Drumming for Peace drum circle is part of Conflict Resolution Network Canada's PeaceFest 2004 Conference (http://www.nicr.ca/conference/peacefest.asp). As Gabrielle Roth said, "Rhythm is the mother tongue. It's the one language we all speak." The drum circle can represent the perfect expression of communication necessary for peace and conflict resolution. In drumming together, we transcend our differences. Donations of money or used clothing will be accepted by the Mennonite Central Relief Committee. There will also be displays by non-governmental organizations working locally and internationally for peace, as well as local musicians and cultural groups. The drum circle will run from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the Clock Tower in Victoria Park, off Charles Street in Kitchener. ----- Peace, Mark
