skb weekend review

Hey Folks-

This past weekend Sarah and I headed for

Cincinnati and Ann Arbor for a roadtrip

to visit friends and see SKB. We met up

with our friends, some of whom we hadn't

seen since the wedding, others since Big

Cyprus!

We met up with Jamie and quickly found

ourselves at the Watson Bros. Breweries.

Decent beer, we all tried the tasting menu-

my favourite was the American Wheat. Soon

afterwords ten of us were having dinner at

the Teak Restaurant(Thai and Sushi) According

to local friend Bob, this is where Phish

used to go for dinner when in town. Anyways

we stuffed ourselves on a ridicolus sized

sushi boat before the show :)

SKB played at the Madison theatre in Covington

Kentucky- just over the river from Cincinnati.

A fixed up old movie theatre into a venue, art-

deco style. Good sized room, decent sound with

excellent sightlines to the stage. Ice Cream,

STD, Tongue and Groove all were standouts. Jim

Kost(keyboardist) has recently left SKB to play

with Mountains of Venus. Never really got into

his playing, as he usually was so low in the mix

you couldn't hear him. Anyways the rest of the

guys played great!! With Rodney stealing the show

as usual with amazing drumming skills.

Heading back over the Roebling bride was very cool.

This historic suspension bridge was the proto-type

for the Brooklyn Bridge.

Sat we headed to Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is the town

that the University of Michigan resides in. Tons of

great little restaurants,bars,coffee shops,stores etc

They had several blocks devoted to a street party for

alumni- with an awesome dixie jazz band playing to a

huge crowd.

Before the show we had dinner at the recommended Arbor

Brewing Co. Decent pub eats, and a great selection of

microbrew. The special was the Octoberfest Lager :)

SKB played the Blind Pig, this place is a joint! It

felt like seeing SKB at the Horseshoe Tavern. Another

great show. New song You Da' Mon was fun. Hillbillies,

Long Form Pt 1,Brother Mike,Elmers and Avalon all had

us wildly grinning!!

A fun weekend with friends and some AMAZING music to

boot!! Night shift on Sunday wasn't so fun though ;-)

Cheers!
