If you don't know new monsoon you should! They are a septet: 2 guitarists, a keyboardists, a bass player and 3 percussionists (congas, tablas, and drums). Their mix of indian and latin rhythms, with bluegrass, rock, and funk have propelled them to success in the the US Jamband scene. Go to archive.org for free shows, or newmonsoon.com to hear samples from their live at Telluride 2004 album.

Last night they sold out the media club in Vancouver, and tonight they play at the NighLight in Bellingham. There's a $7 cover and tix can be pre-ordered at ticketweb.com. The venue is the newest in Bellingham and there's plenty of room to boogie. So if you like what you hear, cruise down to Bellingham and get your groove on!

The Vancouver show, last night, was unbelievable! I bought all of these guys' CDs on my way out, and am now officially a fan. (Thanks Upstream Entertainment for bringing yet another kickass show.)

... BTW: Who was that guy there last night from Ottawa, calling himself "Hux", streaking naked through the bar yelling something about some guy named "Bobby"?

I decided to try to find the set list from last night to post it, as I really don't know New Monsoon's music well enough to do it off the top of my head. I couldn't find a set list, but I found this review...

Subject: WOW!!! from Vancouver

Just back home from the Media Club where New Monsoons breathed fire into a

chilly and clammy night, warming up the inside of the club along with the

sold out , and VERY appreciative audience. But as much of a treat it was to

have this wonderful band in my hometown, it was also a treat to meet Beth,

Dr. Bob, and Kamloops!... and the music.... What a way to have their first

Canadian concert........ so many ironic moments... we have been having

monsoon-like rains over the past week... so tonight, hardly a shower..... in

fact, the monsoon was indoors.... and then with Brian sitting in for

Marty..... double irony.... and the music..... Damn, those boys can

play..... Phew.....all the familiar tunes and then the Hendrix surprise as

an encore............. Glad I was there!!!

Thanks to the band and to Nathan on the board, safe travels to all our

visitors and see you again!!!
