bradm
I was trying to find an early-'80s Dead show that I had a while ago, with a "New Minglewood Blues" that has some of Jerry's most outside playing*, and came across 1983-10-31, and wow! I also listened to 1990-09-20 today, and the difference is startling. The pace in 1983 is a lot quicker, and Jerry seems much more "on fire", to the point where the Jerry tunes seem as upbeat as a lot of Bobby tunes. There's a great "Lost Sailor -> Saint Of Circumstance", the last "St. Stephen" (well, that's what the comments say; was it played ever again?), "Throwing Stones" (which is also in the 1990 show), and a "Revolution" encore. The source is FOB, and the sound quality is great; it almost seems like I'm there, and you get a real sense of the size of the venue (which apparently was pretty small). Aloha, BRAD (Bobby Recovering Any Day) * If anybody knows which one I mean, let me know. I think it was an '83 show, but I can't be sure.
