If you could avoid the gananoque border, do that first (maybe Ogdensburg?) and go from there. Also, find out from Vermont Dave how far it is from Burlington. It's only 3.5 hours to burlington so if it's within 4 hours from there, you're in good shape and you get a nice border and a gorgeous drive.
