Slow Nerve Action 10/14/05

I was going stir crazy in the country and felt the need to go into town waaaaaaay early for the Trevor Dunn show at Avant Garde (4 more hours). I had figured that the Bayou would've been a great chill atmosphere with raven playing but finally decided to shake it down at Maverick's and was totally content with my choice but as the night went on it was more than just passable.

I had figured that I'd see more skanks out to a Porn Funk band. Most people were all too well behaved which was sort of expected, but I'd bumped into a few old faces - a friend from elementary and high school and a guy I'd met at the 'Jam Clinic' with Giggles at the Nepean School of Music a few years ago.

the guy still wears white sneakers. His name's Alex and he's still playing music.

I missed Quiver Twist but Donkey Punch (their logo is a big bold DP in a square. How 'fitting'.

good rock and roll band. Not a dancer but good tunes.

Anyhow, the SNA boys were in fine form, wearing matching Blue Quarter t-shirts (except for Ben) and gettin' down to make up for a relatively danceless crowd.

A select few of us were kickin' it out and I was glad that I made it out of the country last night.

Now it's on to lunch and then to Avant Garde. A matinee show is exactly what I need for this aching back of mine.
