kc
Any global-groove/dub heads will appreciate Eccodek this Friday at Pepper Jack's in Hamilton. Special guests: Atomic Cosmonaut(Mind of a Squid) http://www.newmusiccanada.com/genres/artist.cfm?band_id=11337 www.pepperjackcafe.com Guelph producer, engineer and singer/songwriter Andrew McPherson has been making music in Canada for over 20 years. His production and remix work has been heard in an array of Canadian and international artists’ recordings. Credits include: Natalie MacMaster, Philosopher Kings, Junkhouse, Jane Siberry, Sky, Iceland’s gusgus, Seattle’s Pigeonhed, Ireland’s Andy White, Kate Schutt, Stephen Fearing, John Borra, four80east and more. His original music has been heard on Discovery Channel, TSN, CTV, CBC and the History Channel. As an artist, Andrew occupies two wildly divergent worlds. The first is that of the groove. With eccodek, Andrew has developed an earthy mosaic of dub, mid-Eastern, African, Asian, electronic and funk that is turning heads as well as hips. 2003’s ‘More Africa in Us’ received steadily rave reviews and the new ‘Voices have Eyes’ will no doubt garner the same. Featuring 5 singers from Mali, Turkey, Fiji, Rwanda and India as well as Malian kora master Mansa Sissoko and vocal sensation Kiran Ahluwalia, the new album is stunning. The second of the two worlds is that of songwriter. Andrew's songs have been called a ‘collaboration between Thin White Duke era-Bowie and Leonard Cohen…’ An introspective lyricist, deemed ‘…an impossible-to-define composer…’, Andrew weaves a peculiar blend of fractured folk, druggy jazz and ambient soaked pop into a distinctive personal style.
