In case you haven't checked it out recently, dieseldoug has uploaded some new shows to the Archive.

New uploads include:

May 24 weekend 2004 matrix from Izzy's (Check out the "Skipper"!! Wow, talk about splitopenandmelt, really captures the festival mood)

May 17, 2004 recorded by Doug Smith at the Pepper Jack Cafe.

And coming down the pipe (probably available this weekend pending curator approval) is May 15, 2004 at Angelos in Port Dover, (one of Summer's first shows) that was recorded by dieseldoug.

The show closer will be "Chico" for those who have been cyber-screaming for it.

Enjoy!

There are two ways to do it.

First, you need to get the URL onto the clipboard. One way is to go to the web page, and in the "location" field in your browser (where the entire URL is given), select all the text (if nothing's selected in it, single-clicking in the field should select all the text; otherwise, triple-clicking might do the trick). Then copy this to the clipboard by holding down the "Ctrl" key while pressing the "c" key.

The other way is to have a web page that links to the page whose URL you want. Put your mouse pointer over the link, and right-click your mouse. This should bring up a menu, with an item that reads something like "Copy Link Location".

You now have the URL on the clipboard. You now need to put it into a post. If you just paste the URL (hold down the "Ctrl" key while pressing the "v" key), the URL will be in the post in "raw" form, like this:

http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=33301

People can click on it, but the thing they're clicking on isn't very informative. The other way is to click on the little button (above the text box where you're typing your post) that looks like a globe (I see it as third from the left in the second row). This brings up a message box asking for the URL; hold down the "Ctrl" key while pressing the "v" key, then "OK". After this, another message box should pop up asking you for the text you want displayed for the link. (It's also possible to do all of this just by typing, but you have to know the special codes using square brackets. I do this, but I'm a programming geek with a maniacal head for picayune details.)

For example, the URL I pasted in above could be given as DD 2006-01-28. As you read this post, all you'll see if the clickable text; if you hit hit the "quote post" button, you'll see everything the whole thing, square brackets and all.

Hope this helps.

Aloha,

Brad

One other thing: if you're making a post containg URLs (either "raw" or using text for the link), it's a Really Good Idea to preview your post, click on the links, and make sure the web pages come up properly. (In fact, you can even use this to practise using URLs and links: make up a post about anything, using whatever URLs/links you want, preview it, see if/how it works, and then discard it.)

Aloha,

Brad
