WHITEHALL -- Rock star Trey Anastasio could be facing more serious drug charges related to his arrest last week in this small North County village.

Washington County District Attorney Kevin Kortright said Wednesday that his office is reviewing Anastasio's case and might present it to a grand jury, opening Anastasio up to possible felony charges.

The former frontman for the band Phish was arrested early Friday morning after police saw his car swerving and allegedly found with him an assortment of prescription medications, including hydrocodone, Percocet and Xanax, for which he had no prescription.

He was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, seventh-degree drug possession and DWI for drugs, all misdemeanors. He was released from custody with an appearance ticket for a later date.

Anastasio's license had been suspended in the state because he failed to answer a previous ticket, village police said.

Kortright is considering the more serious charges because of the large amount of pills Anastasio allegedly had on him.

"He had about 60 pills of assorted drugs," said Kortright. "They are checking the weight at the lab right now."

Phish, which was formed in Burlington, Vt., in 1983, evolved into a behemoth jam band with a Grateful Dead-style following of fans who spent months traveling from show to show and to the band's many weekend festivals.

Anastasio, 42, who has been pursuing a solo career since Phish broke up in 2004, is scheduled to appear at the Palace Theatre in Albany on Dec. 29.
