Jay Funk Dawg
www.NUFUNK.ca PRESENTS: VANDERPARK, THE SEA INSIDE & USS also featuring DJ Shandy & Human Kebab Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 10:00pm Revival Bar 783 College St. W ( at Shaw) Toronto, ON Tickets $10 @ Rotate This, Soundscapes, Shanti Baba & via the bands... http://www.nufunk.ca for online tix VANDERPARK http://www.vanderpark.com “This tight Canadian band channels some licks and grooves from the collections of Prince and Stevie Wonder and then slathers them in a glaze of smoldering Modern Rock. If Maroon 5 can be played on radio every 15 minutes, Vanderpark should be on every 10.†CityBeat Magazine Cincinnati, OH - 09/26/2007 In the wake of their highly acclaimed full-length LP All Your Hands, Vanderpark is back with their latest effort Cherish Yesterday. Musically sophisticated and lyrically charged, Cherish Yesterday is jam packed with the newest sounds from the Toronto-based rockers. In contrast to their earlier years, dominated by rigorous touring, this amazing live quartet has grown studio savvy, retooling and refocusing on the music industry in the making of this LP. Wielding their two distinctive voices, singers/guitarists Dave Stulberg and Marcus Wong belt soaring harmonies, tightly woven around fist-pumping grooves created by rhythm section Hanaya Haddad and Alan Demsky. Vanderpark’s live performances have captivated audiences all over Central and Eastern Canada and more recently through the United States. Relix Magazine has deemed them “A band on the vergeâ€, and in 2006 alone they performed over 100 headlining shows, thrilling audiences abroad. Vanderpark is band you remember. THE SEA INSIDE http://www.theseainside.ca It's an amazing time to catch THE SEA INSIDE live. Their debut album 'A BEAUTIFUL MESS' has drawn comparisons to such diverse influences as the performance theatrics of Queen to the experimental edge of early Radiohead. "Vocal arrangements showcase soaring Coldplay-like vocals" (London Free Press, 2007) flirting between the depths of emotional soul searching, countered by the flushing anger of roaring guitars. "They have the perfect mix of angst and resolution" (Bite TV, 2007). After an intense 2006 of writing and recording their debut LP, 2007 was a year of learning to mesh as live musicians. Playing frequently throughout the year, and culminating in a supporting performance of ‘The Plain White T’s’ (of ‘Hey there, Delilah’ fame) for over 1000 fans at Toronto’s prestigious ‘The Guvernment’, their goal of bringing the dynamic and emotion-soaked sound of their album to the stage has not only been met, but indeed exceeded. DO NOT MISS this first performance of 2008. Highly recommended if you are into Coldplay or early Radiohead. “The fact that their album has been in my rotation for a couple of months... speaks volumes about their work. This may be your chance to ‘get in on the ground floor’, as they say" says Rob Schmidt, in his rapidly growing blog ‘London: Burgeoning Metropolis’. Notable Listens include: [Too Much] - “It's UK influenced with unbelievable vocals/vocal arrangementsâ€. (Bite TV, 2007) [behind Your Eyes] - "Cali, their vocalist, really channels a Freddie Mercury type vibe and creates a beautiful falsetto masterpiece.†(Bite TV, 2007) USS http://www.myspace.com/ubiquitoussynergyseeker “It’s not the content. It’s the model†says singer/songwriter/producer/arranger Ash Boo-Schultz who, along with DJ and hype man Human Kebab make up Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker (USS). It’s a philosophy that Ash lives by and one that drives USS’ unique style. The music is a tremendous amalgamation of every genre Ash has ever immersed himself in, sewn together with a folk singers gentle hand. There are the nuances of pop, driving danceable beats, ska, classical symphony and hip hop nestled beneath a voice evocative of Cobain’s tortured wail. The lyrics are clear and poetic, smoothly skating between themes of mental stability and metaphysical realities to love and the importance of being emotionally responsible to one’s self. also featuring DJ Shandy & Human Kebab SAT.JAN.26th @ REVIVAL Tickets $10 @ Rotate This, Soundscapes, Shanti Baba & via the bands... visit: http://www.nufunk.ca for online tix

Uncle Chaos
Really good time last night.Couldn't find Jaydawg to say hi, but musically a great night. The Sea Inside reminded me a lot of Suede, which in my books is a great thing, clever "Under Pressure "set ending.Vanderpark sounded awesome, good and groovy, without too much distracting noodlyness, good focused jams. I could only stay as long as that, though, so missed USS, hope they were great.Good fun, Jaydawg, maybe we'll meet next time.
