George Plimpton, one of the most respected people in literature and letters, and who helped introduce writers such as Jack Kerouac to the world, died in New York at the age of 75. Plimpton was known for, among other things, "participatory journalism". Probably his most famous work was "Paper Lion", which documented him training with and briefly playing for the Detroit Lions in the early 1960s. The Salon.com story is here.
