Basher
Just stumbled upon this news while searching about an issue we are having. We have the 6141 HD receiver, and they released a firmware upgrade a couple weeks ago that allows you to attach an external USB hard drive to the receiver to activate PVR functionality!Pretty cool, seeing as I didn't want to spend the extra $200 at the time for the box. At least this way if I switch to Rogers down the road I will have an external hard drive to make use of.Just passing the word along, as I had not heard of this. Kanada Kev
Do you know if that's only for the receiver that you mention, or all Bell receivers? They've had those USB ports for ages, yet they have never been activated. I've got an old 5900 PVR, yet would love the USB to work for easily playing content on a flash drive
Basher
Firstly, you can't use flash drives for video. Has to be a 3.5" USB 2.0 drive (16MB buffer, 7200RPM). As it stands it is only available on the new boxes, so it won't work on a 5900. Super excited to give this a try tonight (yes, I ran out and immediately got a hard drive upon hearing this news). Kanada Kev
Thanks. Good to know for when I upgrade.Looks like a good deal being able to get the standard HD receiver on the cheap and having the ability to choose the size of your drive for PVR functions. Now, I gotta go and get a HD tv and a new dish .http://www.bell.ca/shopping/PrsShpTv_DTH_BestHDPVR.page Edited January 19, 2009 by Guest
Basher
Call them and demand the 6141 for $150. When they say it is for new customers only ask for the retention department and they will extend you the half price offer.
