DevO
NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW - one week at The Royal - a film by Jonathan Demme with Neil Young - in High Definition, 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound - starts Friday March 26th Trunk Show: a traveling display of unique goods, packed and unpacked along the way. NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW: Jonathan Demme's display of Neil Young's musical and spiritual soul. There are delicately offered acoustic numbers like "Sad Movies" and "Mexico"; mesmerizing electric travelogues into the artist's psyche ("No Hidden Path"); searing, chaotic anthems including "Like a Hurricane" and "Cinammon Girl"; and rarely performed pieces like "Kansas" and "Ambulance Blues" that provide glimpses of Young's less public persona. WATCH THE TRAILER: Shot with a mix of video and film cameras, mostly handheld, NYTS presents the kinetic reality of a Neil Young performance in breathtakingly intimate fashion. Young and his band are captured with great immediacy, often in dramatically long takes that let the viewer experience Young opening up his heart song by song, and then blowing it all away in heated, uninhibited displays of rock and roll power. “Young seesaws maniacally around the stage, the music surging and regressing with exhilarating unpredictability, the end seemingly never in sight. It’s an unholy tantrum that Demme treats, quite rightly, like a miracle†– Time Out, New York http://newyork.timeout.com/articles/film/83858/neil-young-trunk-show-film-review “The music sounds terrific, with Young's wizened expression and rheumy eyes belied by the storming intensity of his performances.†– Chicago Reader http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/MovieTimes?oid=1532059 “If you're a fan of the indomitable Canadian rocker - high-pitched voice, proto-grunge guitar, total immersion in the music - then you want to see NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW on the big screen, for sure.†– Philadelphia Inquirer http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/movie/20100319_Like_a_hurricane__but_not_always.html “NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW features two great artists -- Demme and Young -- continuing to find new ways to please their fans.†– San Francisco Chronicle http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/03/18/MVP91CG5KH.DTL “If he has overlooked your favorites, have faith: There’s plenty left in the trunk for that promised encore.†– New York Daily News http://www.trunkshowmovie.com/ SCREENING TIMES: Friday March 26th @ 9:30pm Saturday March 27th @ 9:30pm Sunday March 28th @ 4:30pm and 9pm Monday March 29th @ 9pm Tuesday March 30th @ 9pm Wednesday March 31st @ 9pm Thursday April 1st @ 9pm tickets: General Admission: $10 Students & Seniors: $8 there are no advance tickets

DevO
I caught this last night at The Royal - kick ass movie! The doc was filmed over 2 nights, during (I believe) the Fall 2007 tour (the one where Neil played 3 nights at Massey Hall). It has a looser feel than Heart of Gold - shots weren't planned, rather they had about 7-8 camera men/women with hand-held cameras to capture the performances as they chose best. Some great, rare backstage moments with Neil are a real treat to see as well. There's a 23 minute No Hidden Path smack in the middle of the film, a bit of an endurance test, but Neil pulls it off without losing the audience (this audience member, anyway!). Great concert doc made by Jonathan Demme, the maker of Heart of Gold, Stop Making Sense, Philadelphia, Silence of the Lambs, etc. Neil is still the man! Prost
I saw the trailer for this when I went to go see The Last Waltz a couple weeks ago. It looks awesome. I have to go check it out. I'm sure it sounds great at The Royal too!
