Weakerthans to play Horseshoe next Tuesday

Such nice guys - playing a benefit gig for Library Voices, who lost all their gear in a basement flood.

As the Weakerthans prep for their show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre next Wednesday (May 26) in support of their fine CD/DVD, Live At The Burton Cummings Theatre (Epitaph), the band will give fans a treat and also lend a desperately needed hand to a fellow prairie band, Regina (sm)art rockers Library Voices. On Tuesday, May 25 — the night before the QET show — the Weakers will take over the Horseshoe for a special edition of Nu Music Nite. While this will be a ticketed show — hey, we gave you Band of Horses for free last week! — a portion of the proceeds will got to help Library Voices, who recently lost all of their cherished instruments/gear and a ton of personal possessions when a water line burst in their practice space. The band — whose second release, Denim on Denim, has just been released on their EMI-distributed Young Soul Records label — have vowed to make every date on their upcoming national tour, which brings them to the Horseshoe on June 19 as part of NXNE. And keep your eyes open for the release of a new Weakerthans documentary We're The Weakerthans, We're From Winnipeg, by director Caelum Vatnsdal. Tickets for what will be The Weakerthans' most intimate local show in almost a decade got on sale Thursday at the Horseshoe.
