About Melting Pot

“My head began nodding in time with the beat and not long after, my body began swaying. I was in my own world, a music travelogue, with the band acting as conductor ... Up front, a whole line of people began dancing and grooving which was quite a statement in reserved Toronto. There was something of a breakthrough going on.â€

~ Brian J. Anderson, TorontoNews24.com

“My all-time favourite band!â€

~ Mandy Richardson, Sound-FM (Waterloo, ON)

Vintage rock & roll soul music is the calling card of this fast-rising Toronto trio. Frontman Nelson Sobral weaves soulful vocals, craftsmanship, blistering guitar work and edgy charisma into every song; along with bassist & long-time collaborator Darin Meilleur, whose heavy groove pocket bass lines and top-notch harmonizing provide the melodic heartbeat & pulse. Holding the rhythm down on drums is Carmelo Galle, who kicks up a fierce storm to match the energy of the music and push it to anthemic heights.

In 2010 Melting Pot played showcases at both North by Northeast and Canadian Music Week. They’ve played essential Toronto rooms such as Lee’s Palace, The Great Hall, Silver Dollar Room and The Cadillac Lounge and have built a loyal following across Southern Ontario, most notably in Brampton and Kitchener. Melting Pot has shared the stage with “the godfather of Southern rock†Colonel Bruce Hampton, Brian Cober of the Nationals, Caution Jam, Aqueous, Free Henry, High Plains Drifter, Vaness Alegassi and Larra Skye.

Their 2009 “Five-Song EP†has received airplay on community radio stations across Canada -- peaking at #4 on the all-genre charts at CIUT 89.5 FM, the largest community radio station in North America. Melting Pot has interviewed and/or performed live-to-air on Rogers Cable, ThatChannel.com, Indielove.ca and Sound-FM.
