The group is becoming increasingly known for innovative orchestrations; uplifting and accessible artistry for audiences of all ages. Their unique and energized inclusiveness can be experienced in concert at festivals; schools performances; music venues; street parties and nightclubs. DRUMHANDʼs original compositions make use of a diversity of instruments such as the one-stringed Ê»Stomach Harpʼ and the box-shaped Gome foot drum. The groupʼs danceable and compelling beats are imbued with memorable melodies offered by the Atenteban flute, saxophones, brass and vocal work in a variety of languages. In 2012, the DRUMHAND ensemble toured much of Eastern Canada and released their second album,The Travelling Scheme. Recent performances include: DEEP ROOTS(Wolfville, NS); The World Damba Festival at Tufts University (MA, USA); the Blue Skies Music Festival (ON); Sudburyʼs Northern Lights Festival (ON); the Ottawa International Jazz Festival; The Small World Music Festival (Toronto); Mundial Montréal and extensive tours throughout Québec and the Maritimes.Founded by percussionists David Chan, Larry Graves (Mr. Something Something) and Steve Mancuso in 2008, DRUMHAND features the horn work of Marcus Ali (Cruzao/Jason Wilson) and Rebecca Hennessy (Woodshed Orchestra, Hobsonʼs Choice). DRUMHAND.ca"The Travelling Scheme isn't merely marching music for carnal, lascivious festivities, nor is it intended for passive admiration. Although brimming with joy, it has nobler intentions... it's multicultural, Zen-like orchestration makes you wish that people's international ideologies could blend as seamlessly and harmoniously as musical cultures do, when in the right hands."- Nereida Fernandes, Exclaim! Magazine (Sep 19, 2012)“Des trompettes de Jazz et des percussions dans un feu roulant d’énergie: un mélange idéal pour les amateurs de danse! DRUMHAND, groupe de Toronto, s’inspire de musiques venant de partout et utilise des instruments issus de nombreuses traditions à travers le globe.â€- Ottawa Jazz Festival (Juin 2011) The Altobeelays:Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, The Altobeelays are a live music experience, fusing elements of funk, rock n' roll, pop, and jazz for a sound as unique as the city they hail from. The band met while studying music at Mohawk College and originally formed as an instrumental group in 2009. In early 2011, Tiffany Ormerod hopped on the microphone and "The Beelays" as you know them today were formed. With Scott McIntosh on guitar, Jordan Snider on drums, Tom Altobelli on bass, Chris Bruder on the keys, and a plethora of awesome guest stars, the Altobeelays' dynamic live performance, catchy melodies, and hard-hitting groove render them a force to be reckoned with.
