Joe Strummer / Clash Tribute - Dec 6th in T.O

There will be a Joe Strummer / Clash tribute show held on Saturday, December 6th @ the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto (Queen & Spadina). Cover is $7.

I went to an excellent Clash tribute last year and I believe this one is along the same lines... multiple bands playing 1-2 songs each, with interpretive versions of the songs varying from punch-you-in-the-head-punk, to reggae, to rock.... should be a good time. [big Grin]

Joe Strummer’s New York City Shrine

It’s been an almost a year since Joe Strummer’s unexpected death, but a new video is making sure that the music icon is properly honoured.

The video for "Redemption Song" (a Bob Marley cover and the second single from Joe Strummer’s last album) was shot on Sunday (Nov. 16th) in New York City. The video is directed by Josh Cheuse (who designed the album artwork of Global A Go-Go, which was released last year). Along with old photos and film — featuring The Clash performing at Shea Stadium in 1982 and on the roof of Bonds, as well a previously unreleased footage of The Mescaleros playing at Brixton Academy — the video features artists and painters transforming a blank wall into mural honouring the departed musician.

At the end of the video, New York residents and fans leave candles and other personal items at the foot of Joe’s newly completed shrine. And some notable guests appear among the spectators: Rancid (the entire band), singer Jesse Malin and a number of actors, including Steve Buscemi, Matt Dillon, Cara Seymour (who is married to Josh Cheuse), Cinque Lee and Jim Jarmusch (who directed Mystery Train, which Joe Strummer starred in with Lee).

Streetcore was released at the end of October with Strummer’s band, The Mescaleros.
