It's full of catchy hooks and colour, written with the sort of heart-on-the-sleeve honesty that defined bands like Big Star or The Replacements. Don't expect just love songs from the Ottawa-based songwriter, either; his most recent album, Sugarcoated, buries sophisticated themes under those sunny melodies -- from political corruption to plans falling apart. Based in New York City for almost a decade, Judd has worked as a freelance drummer for a number of independent and major label acts, but it wasn't until returning to Canada and settling down in Ottawa that he picked up the guitar. Now, Judd's rhythm guitar forms the backbone of his songs, giving them a Wilco-esque quality.
