The Spandettes

Sequins for all people

The Spandettes are a powerful and exciting female vocal trio whose infectiously catchy three-part harmonies are backed by a fiercely energetic 7-piece band. Their original music gives a fresh and contemporary edge to classic 70’s soul-boogie -- inspired by disco, funk, RnB, pop, reggae, jazz and soul.

Their sophomore album Sequin Sunrise, coming out worldwide on March 4th, was released in Japan in August 2015 on the legendary Japanese label P-Vine. It inspired rave reviews and helped the band build a passionate fanbase, so much so that The Spandettes sold out two shows at the world-famous Billboard Live in Tokyo, where they also performed on-air at J-Wave, the country’s most popular radio station. Songs from new release have charted in the Top 40 all over Japan; the first single reached #1 on FM Northwave in Sapporo and #10 on the J-Wave Tokio Hot 100.

“All ten of us have jazz degrees, but The Spandettes are where we just let loose and reach the people,” says vocalist and bandleader Alex Tait. “Our shows in Tokyo were such a party, people were so happy they were actually in tears. That kind of authentic reaction really hit home for us and made us realize we’re exactly where we need to be as artists, regardless of how people might categorize the music. We want to use our music as a springboard to create and tap into fans’ positive energy wherever we go, especially through the body-positive movement.  Between the three of us we have different shapes, voices and personalities, and that’s really a fundamental force behind our music.”
